hornady monoflex

From what I've seen of them in a 45-70 I can't see why they wouldn't work very well in a 458. Certainly they would be an excellent choice for "light" .458 loads and at a hotter load would take some of the "trajectory guesswork" out of the 458 for longer ranges.

I just struck me that "other than the Mono bullet construction" what you are trying was done by Winchester way back in the 1880's when they marketed their "express" line of cartridges such as the 330 gr 45-90 in the "86 rifle.

The BC kinda sucks on the mono flex but it's designed to expand at low velocities and should hold together at high velocities. With the right powder should be able to get 2700 fps fairly easy. That would shoot flat to 200 yards and be useful for hunting
The hornady 300 gr hollow point would be a bomb at those speeds but would be fun for plinking
