From what I've seen of them in a 45-70 I can't see why they wouldn't work very well in a 458. Certainly they would be an excellent choice for "light" .458 loads and at a hotter load would take some of the "trajectory guesswork" out of the 458 for longer ranges.
I just struck me that "other than the Mono bullet construction" what you are trying was done by Winchester way back in the 1880's when they marketed their "express" line of cartridges such as the 330 gr 45-90 in the "86 rifle.
