What are your thoughts on the Hornady press and who sells them? Im just looking for the press, nothing else. The old Lee is going to get replaced.
 
My LnL AP arrived on Wednesday and put it up today. I just finished my first pass set up on the AP with a Dillon 1200B trimmer. Just got to wait a while until I can afford some Bullets Powder and Primers.
 
I've got one major issue with my Hornady Classic single stage press.


Basically, when depriming, bits of primer fall down and get stuck between the ram and the press housing. A big chunch of something got stuck down there and has really messed things up. I had to take the whole damn press apart and now there's a huge scratch on the ram.

It's all caused by a terrible ram design, where any loose junk that falls down will be funneled into that gap between the ram and the housing. Because of this, I's suggest against this press. I'll keep mine, maybe send it back and get a new one before the warantee expires. Horandy's warantee is decent.

Another vote for Lee's clasic cast press, the best of them all.
 
If you are used to Lee press you be in for a bit of a shock, the LNL press comes by itself, so you need to budget for shell plates, dies and case feeder if you want one, so the final cost can be quite high.

True, after the 4 shell plates, extra bushings, it all adds up but i would not go back to loading 9mm or 45acp in my lee single stage after using the LNL AP :)

I think with everything i have spent close to $800 and still buying more bits.
 
I loaded close to 30K 9mm rounds on my LNL so far and still have no case or bullet feeder.
It takes about 16 minutes to load 100rds, not taking into consideration time spent on loading primer tubes.
 
Stay away from the Hornady Classic unless you have the LNL AP. Like I said before, there is a major design flaw on the ram that really has me pissed off.

Then Kevan and Gunrunner8 got it covered....Lee Classic Cast Single Stage will do it for you. This and the Classic Cast Turret are Lee's best presses...and comparable/better than any other similar press/brand regardless of cost.

The Classic Cast Single is probably 5 times stronger in construction and leverage, than the old aluminum Lee Single Stage. Nonetheless, it is less expensive but just as robust (or even more so) as any other single stage (RCBS etc), probably better than most except the Forster Co-Ax.....

The Classic Turret has no competition at all, IMO, in the turret market. If you don't full length re-size your rifle cases therefore not need the strength of the Classic Cast Single, perhaps this Classic Turret my suffice and give you faster reloading as the turret will keep/hold your dies in adjustment.
 
My old press struggled with the 300 Win Mag cases. It took a fair bit of effort resizing. A heavier press would be nicer for the larger brass. The only other caliber will be the 223 Im thinking of buying.
