Good evening,

I Have a speer reloading book but recently bought hornady interlock .308 150 gr bullets for my 30-06.

Does something online exists for hornady charts,
OR
Can I use a similar speer bullet data and use it right away? I believe only COAL may be slightly different?
OR
can someone PM the right page for my specific need,

tell me, does everybody have 10 books to match 10 bullet manufacturing co.?

Thank you,

Ghyslain

You can use the Speer data, just work your way to max as you would for any load. I look at the data on Hodgdon's site for references too. There is ususlly a little difference between different manuals. It all depends on the rifle or test barrel they were using, chamber size etc. That is why we ALWAYS work up to max.

Thank you for the reply,

I've got another one: What can I expect from a 150gr bullet out of my 30-06 Tikka?

Is this bullet more suitable for let's say a 308? Will my30-06 push it too fast or with the wrong twist rate?

I'd like some opinions. Maybe I could swap my 150gr for 165 or 180,

Thanks,

It should work fine. As for speed every rifle is different, but you should get close to what the manual says. I have always had good results with 165 gr in 30-06 0r 308 or even my 300 savage. What is your intended use? Hunting what game or target? Work your way up slowly until you get good groups, and then play around with seating depth and + or - .5 grains of powder. Good luck and tight groups.

Don't forget the powder companies and their manuals. I know I've got Hornady, Speer, Sierra, Nosler, Swift and Barnes (several editions of all of these) along with Vihtavuori and Hodgdon. Then there's "Pet Loads" which is a must have. Lyman has a manual. P.O. Ackley's books are interesting reads and good reference too.

I'll try to remember to have a look at the newest Hornady manual in the morning, when I'm not being an insomniac.

That's pretty slow for a 30-06 with 150 gr bullets. Most rifles in 06 that I've loaded for will safely push a 150 gr bullet 2900 fps, and a couple shade 3000 fps. On the other hand, I have another friend's rifle I load for, and 2800 (well, 2815 to be accurate) is the max in that rifle. FWIW - dan

Hornady doesn't have on-line data. Doesn't matter anyway. Load for the bullet weight. Who made it doesn't matter. IMR4064 is your friend. Either of the 4895's will do(they're not the same) or Varget. IMR4064 gives more consistent accuracy that the 4895's.
You'll find the .30-06 prefers 165 grain hunting bullets with the same powders though. A 165 will kill any game you care to hunt.

Oh boy! I wonder how many loading manuals have been sold, because modern reloaders don't go by the above quote, from Sunray?

I agree. A couple powders I found to give good velocities & accuracy with that bullet in my rifle were H-4350 and Viht N550. Both should get you 2900-3000 fps.

Good luck.

You are right Dan, that was 308 load data not 06. I misread the original question. Thanks for pointing this out. I think this shows a good reason to work up loads slowley in case you have inaccurate info. Fortunately my error would be on the low side, not high. Also get several reloading manuals.

I wondered why H-4350 was not there...
That's what I bought (for now).

I first bought that powder, with cci primers and Sierra Game King 165 gr HPBT.
Then, with a Hornady Die purchase, I got also Hornady Interlock 150gr SP

Now, THE question:

For both target AND Hunting (mostly deer but also moose if possible), which of the two would you prefer, or even, what would be your choice on the market, in a medium price range.

I'd like to shoot on a regular basis and be able to hunt with my target bullets /loads
