Hornady short brass .45-70 question

So I started to try and reload some Hornady 325gr FTX. I'm using O.F.B and I'm having trouble with the case length. Standard .45-70 is 2.105 and the short brass Hornady is supposed to be 2.040. Since my case gauge/trimmer will not work with these short cases I used very fine grit sand paper to take off the last bit of length I needed, but since the pressure I was apply was clearly going to vary on each hand turn of the case some of them are measuring a little to short (which I don' think is a huge issue-2.0385 etc) and some have sides that measure perfectly but on say the opposite edge they are a little to long (2.0405-2.0440).

So will I blow my gun up with the slightly to long cases/short? Or will they be within acceptable standards?

Also any suggestions on trimming these short cases would be welcome. Thanks guys.

In my experience they are a pain when you have half of this and half of that. Pressure will vary slightly with the shorter than normal cases but unless you are loading at the max I wouldn't worry about it too much if in a modern gun.
The tolerance you have listed is very very minuscule so I can only assume you are using electronic calipers ;)
Lyman case trimmers work great
