Hi Guys,
Anybody get a deer with these bullets this year ?How did they perform for you ?What was your gun/load combination ? Range/penetration / exit wound size?

I hit the elk one the lungs with a 250 gr sst, one shot kill. He ran 40 yards before his subscription was cancelled. I shot my moose at 18 yards with the 250 gr, and dropped him on the spot. My whitetail was at 104 yards, one shot, dropped on the spot.

I would have to say that the hornady sst has been quite a successful bullet for me, I use them, 250 gr, with 3 triple seven pellets in front. It kicks like a mule but sure does a nice clean kill.

Last year I shot an elk in the neck at 37 yards with the sst and absolutly destroyed the bullet, all I found when I butchered it was fragements.

They are definitly worth trying.

You mean a 200gr in front of 3 "777" pellets, lol!
Soon brother, soon. And I will be pleasured with my new T/C Encore!
"BWANA",Gilly used a T/C Encore if he did'nt allready state so.

Here is a post that I just put up on another forum today.

"Anyone using SST's, and how did they work for you?

I shot at 2 does on Tuesday morning about 2 minutes apart.

Both does did not look like they were hit after I shot at them. I swore I missed both. 1st doe was at 90 yards and the second was at 115 yards. both ran away but did not kick, drop down, hunch up, or run with thier tails down. I got down out of my climber and went over 20 minutes later, there I met my buddy who had heard the shots and walked over. I told him that I had missed both deer and that I wanted to wrap my gun around a tree. What the hell!!!
We looked where I shot the at first doe and found a clump of hair, lung tissue and a good spray of blood, followed that trail and found her piled up 50 yards from where she was hit. The 250 gr SST went clean through her blowing the top third of her heart apart and taking the bottom of one her lungs out. lots of blood. My mood improved!

We went to spot where I shot at the second doe and found some hair and a small spot of blood. we followed her trail for 20 yards and found where she had stood and looked back leaving 1 puddle of blood the size of a pie plate. I knew then that she wasn't too far. Another 15 yards and she was piled up. Again the SST went clean through her but this time I must have twitched when I shot because it blew right through her guts. what a stinking mess. My mood further improved!
anyways the SST's did the job very well but I was expecting to see the deer fold up or at least run off looking like they were shot being that they were both fatal wounds.
My load was 130 gr of 777 pellets behind a 250 gr hornady SST.
My gun is a Traditions Pursuit Pro."

Hornady SST

Took a nice little buck on Monday with 50 cal, 300 gr sst in the Encore with 130gr of pyrodex. These things are really tight to load in the Encore but shoot well. Shot was low in the neck and out the opposite front shoulder at about 50 yds - and the little fellow never took a step.

Hey Viper, I am getting 1 1/2 inch - 2 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards from a solid rest. off hand I am not even going to say!!! LoL

Hornady SST's only come in poly tip.
They should perform about the same as Precision D/C's of similar weight but at approx.half the cost. That will let you shoot twice as much during pre-season warm-up sessions.
I've shot several Whitetails with 240 D/C.'s/ 110 loose T7tf and am not impressed with their Terminal Performance on broadside lung shots. Not much blood trail in the Fall Bush and the Deer are good for about a 40 yard run before they cave in.
Gonna have to bring the cross-hairs foreward to the shoulder and up a tad to put 'em down where they stand.Love that high shoulder hit to anchor 'em!!!  :cool:Destroys a bit if meat but they go straight south!!

My elk I shot in Sep, broadside, had an excellent blood trail, with chunks of lung here and there. The SST did not pass through even though it was a 37 yard shot with 150 of 777.

Viper,

I am getting 1,1/2 to 2 inch groups at 100 yards off a solid rest. I have never shot it past that yet. I would like to see how well they group at 200 yards. My guess is probably 3-5 inches.
