.22-250 Hornady Varmint Express vs. Hornady Superformance??
I shoot the 50gr V-Max Varmint Express factory ammo in my .22-250, the rifle loves it.

Has anyone shot the 50gr V-max Superformance side by side with the 50gr V-max Varmint Express to see difference in speed, accuracy and POI??

It seems like Superformance is taking over the store shelves and Varmint Express may be fazed out...?

Is there actually a difference?

I did post this in the ammo section, but there is very little activity in there, thanks.

In my 22-250 the superformance was shooting just over 3800fps form a 22" barrel. 5 rounds well under .5" so long as I didn't psych myself out lol. I shot hornady custom 40gr vmax and it was right around 4000 fps with the same accuracy as the 50gr superformance.
As for taking over the shelves I still see just as many brown boxes as red ones. Either way can't argue with the price its very cheap for factory ammo that shoots that good.

Thanks guys, I am looking for some one with experience shooting both and the results that they had in their gun.

I have tried both in 2 different 22-250s. I have also tried both Varmint Express (55gr Vmax) and Superformance (53gr Vmax) 223 Remington loads, side by side in three different rifles, and the results could not be predicted from one to another...which is why I posted my first comment. The only thing I can say with certainty, is that there's not enough of a velocity and energy difference between the 2 loads for any rodent or predator on the receiving end to ever notice. And second is, the price difference between the two is small enough that if the Superformance load happens to be the most accurate one in your rifle you can still afford to shoot it.

i have tried the 55 gr varmint express vs the 50 gr superformance the superformance shot about a half inch higher both groups were just as tight,,which makes sense with a little lighter and hotter bullet

53gr vmax shoots excellent in my stevens 200 and I see no difference between 55gr vmax and 50gr super in my 250 T3 HB(except for of course the super being a lil flatter)

I have shot both these factory cartridges in three rifles, .223, .22-250 and my new .204! In all three cases, I have felt better about the performance of the Superformance round. The .22-250 shot easily sub-MOA with the Superformance at 100 Yards, from a heavy barrel Remington 700 Varmint. That is saying something since it very seldom shoots sub-MOA with Remington or Winchester factory loads. Good luck with your shopping, and if worst comes to worst, buy a box of each and some different weights and enjoy some shooting

This is how my Kimber shoots the 50gr Varmint Express. 6 rounds and the gun was ready to kill, done deal.

I can not find the 50gr .22-250 Varmint Express ammo locally.

I am looking for a favour, if you know of a few boxes at your local shop please let me know and I will contact them.

Not interested in superformance at this time, thanks for the help.
