Hornady vs. Dillion

I am learning progresive relaoding for handguns and have question.

Does anyone own new Hornady Lock-N-Load press, and how this press compares to Dillion?

It's better than the 550, but not as fast as the 650 although built stronger.

The Dillon 650 wins out for a better primer tube system, and easier caliber changes, but at nearly double the price.

I own the Hornady LNL. I haven't owned either the Dillon 550 or 650, I've only tinkered with the display models at P&D Ent in Edmonton.

I sprung for the Hornady over the dillon 550. It hasn't arrived yet, can't wait!

I have both a LNL and a 550, they both are good machines. I find a primer system to be a pain to fill in the LNL as you must take it off the machine, as well where it is progressive it is a little more finicky. All in all they are both excellent machines but like guns you must become very familuar with them to get the most from them.

Loaders

Every progressive loader has its advantages. The more you use the machine -the more you get out of it. Learning to use the "feel" of the machine to alert you to a hickup will become second nature after a while but you will also discover that the sound it makes can tell you just as much. You become used to the sound it makes and when something is "off" you will notice it.

I have an old Hornady "Projector" the original before the lock and Load.
It has been a great machine for over 10 years now. Never had a problem.
(Once it would flip Federal primers upside down but turned out the feed had gotten off centre.)

I've been using a projector for over 10 years now too, probably closer to 15. It works, and works well. Clean it up a bit every once in a while and it runs fine. Primer system isn't overly onerous, I like the break it gives me from pulling the handle. The brass kicker is the weak link in my opinion as I've busted a few in my time. It's always been my fault "gee I wonder if I can just get away with.....crap. Hello Hornady?....." They've always been very helpful and for the few things I've needed, the price has always been FREE! Just as good as the "no b.s." from Dillon. I've actually got Dillon dies and they've been good to their word too.
