I heard the part about the Zombie max being rebranded Critical Defense from a local vendor, at least in regards to the 12 gauge Zombie Max. I got an assortment a few days ago and noted that the 7.62x39 would be legal to hunt with as it has an expanding projectile :)

The 7.62X39 is steel cased.
It looks the same as most of the critical defence ammo except with green tip.
I think they are also going to offer some of these in lever gun calibres which will be like leverevolution rounds.
We will see...

On the bold - I'm told that Epps has 30-30 Z-Max coming in soon. Myself, I'm waiting on the 12ga. zombie ammo to arrive. IMHO, that is the classic zombie round and I've gotta have one box sitting on the shelf in the gun room as a conversation piece.

Now I'm sure there are lot's of dried-up, humourless old farts out there that have already formed a strong negative opinion about the whole Z-Max concept - we all know the type. The kinda guy that could name every variant of Lee Enfield then identify them while blindfolded just by the way each one smells. There's probably already some Z-Max hate threads on various milsurp forums. :p

AFAIC it's a great tongue-in-cheek marketing scheme. You really have to tip your hat to Hornady for thinking a little outside of the box then having the cajones to actually pick up the ball and run with it. I bet they sell a ton of the stuff.

It's genius. All you need to do is put old ammo in a new box and paint the tip green and then double the price and call it zombie ammo.

That being said, I'm buying a box of 45 for giggles :)

I don't think that you're alone in that respect. I figure that even non-gun owners will get a kick out of the humour. Might make this hobby seem a bit less "evil" in thier eyes.
