hornady's Amax bullet

just wondering if anyone knew anything about how these would perform in a hunting situation? I have been shooting the new 208 amax and they shoot great and I would like to use them for hunting but not shure if it is a good idea or not, if you have any input please let me know.

A-Max bullets are match grade bullets. They're not made for hunting anything but targets. They'll do for varmints, but nothing else.

Keep impact velocities under 2500fps and you will be fine on broadside shots. Not a good bone bullet until it has slowed down alot more.

We would use a bullet like that for long shots but a reg hunting bullet for up close.

I killed a nice 8 point buck with one last year, no problems. They are the equivalent of the Nosler Ballistic Tips and are fine for deer sized game. The only difference between the A-Max and their SST hunting bullet is the addition of a cannelure to better lock the core after impact. I wouldn't recommend them for Moose or anything of that size, but for deer they are great.

SST's also have Hornady's inner interlock groove.
