love to hear people's opinions about the various 22 hornet rifles which have been offered over the years. i have a m40 savage, haven't shot it enough yet to base an opinion of it.

so, ruger, cz and other owners, what do you think of the hornets you've owned/tried?

oh, how much louder is a fireball than a hornet btw?

I also had a brno, can't remember the model but with the set triggers what a sweetie. One of the few I wish I had back. The Hornet is a great round.

The 221 is a lot louder than the Hornet. The FB is up around .222 or .223 noise levels, the Hornet is closer to a 22 WMR.

Fanstastic round, can't say enough good about it. I wnet through nearly as many Hornet rounds last year as rimfire ammo. If you reload and save your brass, you can load for around the same price as premium rimfire magum ammo :D

The Hornet I had was an H&R break action. That rifle had the heaviest trigger pull I have ever experienced, it must of been close to 16 pounds, but it broke clean with no creep. It proved to be a handy little rifle, cheap to load for, and reasonably accurate despite the heavy trigger. It didn't bark too loud, and was well mannered.

I lusted for an early Brno Fox for years, and never bought one. My son in law has one in .222, but I'm afraid it gets used hard.

Had a Ruger 77/22 hornet, It was a sweet gun, It was one of the nicest rifels I have ever shot. The problems were that it wasn't as accutate as I would have liked and the ammo was to expencive, I didn't reload at the time.

Have a ruger #3 single shot originally in .22 Hornet and had it reamed to .22 K Hornet several years back.........with handloads it will shoot well under an inch with the 40 gr Vmax , 45 gr Hornady " hornet" and 50 gr Hornady flat base useing WW296 powder...

Rifle was very accurate as a Hornet but gained 300 fps in K version and accuracy got even better....

At 14 gr. powder for a 40 vmax load, it shoots 3250 fps ( avg. ) and is the cheapest of all my rifles to feed ... about 500 loads to the pound powder...

If you get an accurate one... keep it !!

..........your mileage may vary

Sorry to get off topic but I wanted to get an Anschutz Hornet.Talked to Mr. Krause at Noth Slavia about an Anschutz .22 Hornet. He said that Anschutz is discontinuing there line of centerfire rifles so If anyone wants one place your orders now.:(

I had a Ruger 77/22 Hornet...shot very good once I started to handload for it.
Fun Reliable rifle I should have kept......:(

So many Gunnnzzz so little money:rolleyes:

Poor cousin Dave....

I too have a hornet. I love it but it's just a very ordinary Savage break action Model 219B with a Bushnell 3X9 variable which I am reloading for. Much fun for few bucks. Would I like a bolt action...yes. Dave

Here's my little Khornet
Marksmen.jpg

it is a Stevens Marksman with an Anschutz barrel, and as 1920's vintage Belding and Mull scope.
I have to keep the loads to minimum because of the action, but it sure is accurate and fun!:dancingbanana:

I've looked for a 22 hornet barrel for my savage 219 30/30,but they seem as scarce as hens teeth-I understand a 20guage barrel was also available

I have a handi was 22 hornet it is now a k-hornet. Its actually for my boys but in the process of rigging it up I have come to appreciate the role it fills. I could see one of those sweat CZ's following me home one day. It fills the gap between rimfires and the bigger varmint rounds.

I have a Winchester model 43 deluxe. Very nice old school quality in this little rifle.

I have heard comments that the triggers on these little Winchesters weren't all that good. Well that might be but the one on my rifle is incredible! It was likely reworked at some point and breaks very lightly with zero creep. :D

The only problem is theren's nothing really to shoot with a hornet around here so it just punches paper once in a while. :(

I have a Hornet in the Ruger M77 laminated stainelss heavy barrel rifle....after shooting gophers for years with everything from 222 to 220 Swift and almost every 22 centerfire in between and even 243 and 6mm Rem,..the Hornet is a beauty...zero recoil......very little noise and you can still kill gophers out to at least 150 yards with ease.....but when they stand up and thumb their noses at you at 200 plus...out comes the 223.....or the 22-250...

ruger #3 lots of fun, biggest prob. my boys want to take it all the time.must reload.had a bruno bolt but when I made it a K it would not feed as well.have owned CIL,and Savage bolt. The new savage single shot (mod 10 ? ) looks like it may be my next hornet
