Horus Reticle

Some people will watch the latest magpul videos and claim it's the greatest thing ever. IMO, it's personal preference.

If you don't shoot Lon range regular then doesn't really matter, but from time to time shooting 308 beyond 500meter is very useful , make it much easy to correct miss shoot!
Very useful for long range, got one on my new NF!

I have a horus vision scope with the an older version of the H37 with the crosshairs moved up 4mils in the scope and I love the reticle although the scope is only so-so. I have found so far that I am liking holding over rather than dialing any distances, ymmv.

Illumination is also the most usable on any scope I've had as there are small reflective chips on the verticle every 2 mils to allow keeping the illum from washing out the target

I've used a number of them. You can accomplish the same thing with the "Christmas tree" style reticles Premier, Vortex, IOR, Bushnell and others make. These are a good compromise if you find the Horus ones too busy and they don't cost extra. Some of the Horus ones aren't bad, but some are way too busy for my taste.

I do shoot long range, and have shot my .308 out to 1000 yards without a Horus reticle. I managed just fine without it, like I said personal preference.

would help out the boys overseas, quicker corrections, means quicker shots on targets, and more boys that maker home.

That exactly what it's advantage is. A reticle like this isn't giving you an advantage in deliberate type shooting, it gives you an advantage when you have targets that are only exposing themselves for a few seconds at random distances. In those situations you don't have time to fiddle with turrets.

its new, people are scared of new stuff. they get overwhelmed by it, i think todd demystified it pretty good on the magpul vid

Your a bit far off saying it's new, but your dead on with the rest of your statement!!

I've been running mine for over 5 years. And it was being used before that.

I always chuckle when I hear it's too "busy".

Down in the States it's very common and the person who introduced it to me wins almost every precision event he enters. Being this thread is consistent with getting ripped into. Goggle "American Precision Arms" before you lay into me, and have a look.

Also goggle "Dennis Sammut", he is the guy that invented it. He can obviously explain it better than me. :)

Ask an American soldier who uses this system for work how he likes it and "busy" never seems to come up. I've talked to some overseas and down south and the guys like the Horus.

I never argue as I feel "to each their own" and everyone has their preference, so flogging a dead horse never appeals to me.

For open minded shooters who are curious, I've run them through my rifle and once they get the hang of it they generally see the benefits of the system.

I will agree it's not for everyone. And it took me a fair bit to get proficient on it. I can run it fairly well and the PDA and Hours Vision chip put me on target fast and I can bounce back and forth from 100m to whatever distance I'm capable of hitting that day. Without using turrets. That alone puts you way out front if your shooting multiple targets.

Would I suggest to anybody to just go out and buy a scope with the Horus in it. NO WAY. Do your homework if your interested, and by all means try shooting with it first.

I only run the Horus on one of my rifles and the other two have different systems. I'm a fan of being familiar with more rather than less.

After all, it's pretty busy. ;)

Hope this helps shedding some light for those who are interested.

There is nothing "mystical" about it. It's just a grid in an FFP scope that you can use for hold-overs, hold-offs and target leads at any magnification. You can do the same thing with any reticle that has hash marks in an FFP setup. It just involves more error because you have fewer reference points you have to go by. That is the tradeoff with having a reticle that is less "busy".

People confuse themselves because they're conditioned to think that you have to do math in your head in order to make corrections. They try to use the less complicated FFP setup the way they use the SFP setup and get flustered. It's like giving someone who's used to using an old DOS based PC a new computer with the latest version of Windows and watching them get flustered because they keep trying to type everything into the command line rather than just clicking on the icons.

I thought it was very "busy" at first, it takes a while to get used to it but I liked it more and more as time went by. I am hoping Nightforce will make a FFP 5.5-22 with the horus.

You can do some really quick adjustments with it and also you are rarely aiming at dead space with the reticle. The FFP means you dont have to worry about the math as much. I am in agreement with the F Class crew for that application another reticle may be better but for the Tactical/hunting application I think the Horus reticle is great.

Well its new to the cabela/bass pro/other chain store peoples lol, frigg its new to me as well. And it is mystical kamboyatch like ur dos computer reference lol thats oldddddd stuff. I even remember the ol commadore 64 lol. Just tryin to get something started on it was scary hahaha

In my opinion, the Horus reticle looks busy, and I'm not sure that Todd's explanation on the Magpul video (if you explain reticles by using the door of your pick-up as a white board, you might be a redneck) that the portion of the reticle you're not focused on blurs out of your vision, holds up. I don't think that optical sights which place the target and the aiming point of the same focal plane work that way. That said I'd like to try one. I can certainly see how they would provide a quick reference for a speedy follow up shot, and I believe that Todd was correct in his opinion that after a day or two of shooting with one, you would be more comfortable with it. Human beings do tend to be adaptable critters wither its the shape of a stock, the balance of a gun, or the style of sight.

DOS............It took me 2 hours punching cards to send this. I am not ready for the speed you can change range that a horus can provide.
