Looking for a holster for a 5" 1911. I have not a clue what i should get. Whats needed for idpa?

Also looking for a leather holster for a 6" barreled full lug revolver. Any recommendations?

Just ask Tim at Solely Canadian to make you a Concealment holster. I recommend a 5 degree forward cant. Make sure you specify your exact belt loop size. I recommend a 1.5" gun belt for IDPA. That way, the belt can double as a daily wear belt. 1.75" is too wide for daily wear and looks odd IMO.

Make sure you specify what kind of 1911 you have. SIG models will not fit properly due to the blocky slide. Also brands that have a frame rail.

I am with Still Alive for Solely Canadian......except that I prefer 10 degree cant. It all depends (for me) where you carry the pistol, at 3 o'clock, no cant or 5 degrees is perfect; but at 4 o'clock I find 10 degrees helps the draw.

OK

Totally agree! IDPA requires the front of the holster be inline with the 3 o’clock seam of your pants so I guess the gun is around 3:30? And don’t worry about Level 2 or higher retention. You won’t need that for IDPA. Tim’s holsters retain beautifully with a good Level 1.

spending money on a Fobus, let alone a knock off Fobus, should be a crime.
You've spent decent money on a pistol, something that if it is bucketed wrong (holstered) could end up severely disabling or even killing you, do not cheap out on the holster. Spend what you can afford, at the high end of what you can afford, and get a quality holster.

Got this offer in my email this morning from High Noon Holsters:

Opps See post 2 down.,

They make a pretty nice leather holster.

Take Care

Friends don't let friends buy Fobus.

I have a Bladetech for my STI 1911. Seems to fit and work well. I got it from Freedom Ventures.

I use Bladetech for most of my holsters and am happy with them. For leather holsters, belts and gear I like Ed Laroche. His prices are very fair, workmanship is excellent and service has always been great for me.

For OP, make sure it is a proper holster belt meant for carrying a holstered gun. If you have never handled one they are much, much stiffer and more robust than even a heavy duty fashion belt and you need that for carrying the weight of the gun and mags. I prefer the 1.75" belts myself, but that is personal preference. As long as it is meant for carrying then it should be fine. I do agree with Still alive that holster belts do a great job of keeping pants up as daily wear belts, too.

Amen. A Blade Tech holster isn't that much compared to the gun, mags and ammo and is vastly better.

I use a safarilad kydex paddle holster with suede interior for my 1911. It required a little fitting since i have a high rear sight but works well with good retention, draws well and is IDPA legal. It is also very comfortable for long days at the range. Found used on amazon for $30 I also have an unlined bladetech kydex for my GP 100 scratches the heck out of it but is functional. Its stainless and i stopped worrying about it. If you go kydex get a lined holster!

I use a Blackhawk Serpa for my Glock 20 hooked up to one of "Hanks" gun belts(the Extreme). Works great, simple, safe, tough and very adjustable. Not sure if they make a holster for the pistol you are using.

I've heard/read a lot about the Blackhawk Sherpa holsters being unsafe. What are your thoughts?

the Serpa isn't just a stupid design, it's dangerously stupid. There is a reason it's been banned from ranges around the world, including FLETC in the USA, it's in fact the only holster to have ever been banned.
