We're a small rural range in Nfld. (Northwest Arm Rod & Gun Club) and we've been working on getting organized pistol shooting up and running now for a few months. It's always been popular here with trap/clays or rifle, but the interest also seemed to be there for pistol sports so a core group of us got involved on the range board and started working towards the goal of getting more members involved. Got a Black Badge course organized here locally and then started having weekly IPSC style "practice" events (we don't have an RO yet, so practice shoots is all we can call it so far) which have drawn a regular group. Our range president and board have shown great support to our plans, along with IPSC NL, and we wouldn't have progressed very far without either. So to cut to the chase, it's been a bit of a road to get to this point but this past Saturday we hosted our first "official" IPSC Level 1 event, again with the support of IPSC NL RO's hitting the road to lend their support. Hopefully we'll have our own RO's this fall and many more events then to come; it's been great to see local members, while having shot pistol before, get involved in a sport like IPSC and thoroughly enjoy it!

Excellent job BillD. The more active clubs there are the better. Now try and get some of the wives, daughters and girlfriends involved. :cheers:
 
Walls are a lot of work to put up aren't they ! At my range we now use pieces of rebar 2 to 3 feet long, drive it into the ground and use plastic ties to connect wall to it. Nothing left for people to trip on and quick and easy to setup and tear down. Just my 02 cents. Have fun !
 
Looks good. Jealous of the CFO, apparently yours hasn't received a memo recently to go 'full bubblewrap' like ours.

Thanks folks, yes a lot of stuff is still a work in progress, not the least of which is slowly acquiring different prop pieces including walls lol. But again got a couple guys involved in shooting who can "put an arse in a cat" for putting stuff together, so we're getting there too.
 
This is encouraging! The more the merrier! Good on you for making it happen.
My only suggestion would be to find a copy of the IPSC Target Array Handbook. One or more of the Sections has it posted on their site. Mrs. Google has it. For a level 1, it doesn't matter, but if you want to host a level 2, there's a couple target arrangements that are no bueno.

ok, lol, now I'll be that guy. Why does target array not matter for a level 1? Level 1 and classifiers can dictate shooting positions but not follow the target array book?
"1.1.5.1 Level I and Level II matches are not required to comply strictly with the freestyle requirements or
round count limitations (see Section 1.2).
1.1.5.2 Short Courses and Classifiers may include mandatory reloads and may dictate a shooting position,
location and/or stance. When a mandatory reload is required, it must be completed after the
competitor shoots at his first target, and before he shoots at his final target. Violations are subject
to one procedural penalty."
The one array I saw in these pics that jumped out at me was the ones with two stacked targets and the No-Shoot placed over the both of them covering the bottom of the top target and the top of the bottom target. Not only is it not approved in practical terms it would represent a bad guy with his head up the good guys butt.
For those who think that they're "just targets". Here's general principle number 5 from the IROA Level 2 Handgun seminar, "Practical competition is conducted using practical targets, which reflect the general size and shape of such objects as the firearms may reasonably be called upon to hit in their primary intended use."
