A guy I work with is looking to get a Cooey Model 60 hot blued. TnT Gunworks in Regina quoted him around 250 bucks. I would like to know who is regarded as a good blueing place so I can get him a few quotes to choose from. Any help would be appreciated!

I know Ellwood Epps does a hot blue at a starting price of $175.00, so $250.00 sounds okay to me for a ballpark quote. I've seen no examples of their work, but they are a popular gunsmithing establishment.

Most places will do it at the low end of the price scale if you do all of the prep work yourself. If you can take them something that is stripped and buffed and ready to go the price will be a lot cheaper.

It's more expensive than the rifle is worth because all the prep work(polishing) is done by hand. If your buddy opts to do it anyway, tell him to dissassemble it himself and send only the parts he wants re-blued.

I will pass the Saskatoon gunsmith info to him. Cost is no object to him (was his grandfathers rifle, lots of sentimental value), he just wants to make sure that the work is well done.

Cost does not always equate with quality.
