Hot Brass into Water Still Okay?

I was shooting at the range the other day and my hot .223 brass was flying directly into a cold water puddle. As I picked up my brass from the water puddle I began wondering if the brass is likely to become more brittle from the rapid temperature change?

I would have to think that the brass would have to be extremely hot for anything significant to happen but I couldn't help but wonder. Anyone have any personal experience with this?

its fine, it wouldn't be hot enough to do any thing, it would need to be goin blue to change the metallurgy of the case

Unlike steel, brass is only hardened by working it. Quenching from red hot in water does nothing.

umm quenching from red hot in water will soften the whole case.. = bad if reloading, it would be like aneiling (sp) the whole case and it would just crush

But it is the heating that changes the brass, not the quenching.
