anyone had luck just swapping projectiles between the hot cor and the grand slam of same weights?
are they same shape or different?

shoot the same or not?

I've used both 145gr 7mm HC and GS with same charge in a 7mm-08 and 7x57 Mauser. I found in both rifles the HC's came out a hair faster- 15-20 ft/sec so real close. Both rifles liked the GS's more for accuracy- other than one slow load of HC's in the 7x57. I found the GS were more consistent while testing while the HC were all over the paper until it liked the load...like 4-6 inch groups.
I only used H4350 and Ram Shot Big game for loading these so rather narrow testing.
They are still easy to get and most importantly don't break the bank for plinking or hunting!

The GS bullets have a different type of jacket than the HC.

You can use the same powder/primer/case; if you're lucky, velocities and consistent accuracy will be very close.

Your point of impact will be different of course but if you're going to be shooting from the same rifle, a small adjustment to the optics should easily be able to correct this.

Just remember, HC bullets, albeit very good for cup and core-type bullets, are not as heavily constructed as Grand Slam projectiles.

GS bullets have graduated jacket thickness with segmented petals at the nose. They both have a "bonded core" as the lead core is "poured" rather than swaged into the jacket.

I have one rifle, 7-08, where the two grades of bullets can be interchanged, with the same powder charge/primer/bullet weight/case and I have to adjust the scope turrets 3 clicks R and 2 clicks Up, when switching from HC to GS.

The other, a 7x57 Mauser, needs to be range checked between cross-overs.

I have never used the grand slam, but I know that the hot core and nosler partition bullets shoot to the same poi. in my rifle if the same load is used. Once in a while a guy gets lucky!...... catnip

thanks guys.

looks like ive given up on the GS bullet in my Kimber, just not happening.

may try a lighter hot cor in future but for now gone back to a load that worked in the past, a corelokt ultra projectile .... i nabbed another box so enough for this year.
