How much does the 24” help balance the 457 XRS over the 20”?Do not forget the check out the new builds with 24" CZ MTR barrels, these barrels have been very hard to get and we are happy to have them in for some builds.
This will depend on the chassis. In my MDT ACC Premier Gen2 with a L3i 1.180" 24" barrel, I still needed added weights out front to achieve proper PRS-level balance where the rifle would sit on a bag without tipping over. So, given the CZ barrel is smaller diameter, the extra 4" will help but you'll still need additional weights to achieve the same balance. If you're using a MDT XRS chassis, it's even more tail heavy so expect to add even more weight. How much does the 24” help balance the 457 XRS over the 20”?
You will get roughly extra 300-350 grams over the 20" so around 3/4 of a pound. Depends on how much extra weight you are looking for as mentioned above it might or might not mitigate the need for extra. XRS chassis is not super heavy, but we do upgrade the basic XRS with the enclosed forfend for our builds, so that adds both weight and options to add more. How much does the 24” help balance the 457 XRS over the 20”?
Dang that’s a lot more weight out front than I expected, I’d heard 4lbs was necessary. That has to be north of 6lbs with the extra weight of the Arca and that cannonball is way out front giving way more leverage to that weight. Out of curiosity what does it balance like with a shorter bag with less contacting surface? That bag is supporting so far forward it’s cancelling out most of the external mlock weights you added. The enclosed forend would help for sure, especially if loaded with weights on the additional M-LOK slots.
This was my MDT XRS MTR setup. Side weights were 1 lb 13 oz and it still wouldn't balance. I hung a 4lb fishing weight out front just to see what it would take to get proper PRS balance.
