I love high end guns and I like 1911's but I don't understand the difference between a $4000 and an $8000 1911 - they all look exactly the same to me. Only the price seems to change. With a rifle, I generally see the difference in upgrades whether it be a graded stock, carbon fiber barrel etc. Where does the money go in these 1911's? Same old same old just more hand finishing? Please, let the House of 1911's enlighten me
A Hyundai Genesis looks the same as a Bentley right?

Bentley...They haven't done anything interesting since the introduction of the Continental GT over a decade ago. Bunch of silverbacks asleep at the wheel.

I don't think comments about the price are complaints. People are genuinely asking what goes into these guns to justify the price. We are just wording it in our own colourful way. I don't think it is out of line for Wanstall's to elaborate. Otherwise they can just make the announcement and close the thread. What did you expect given the nature of the audience ?

"There is a home for every gun"..... I know a couple shooters that are retired, have invested and lived wisely, that look for these kinds of pieces. Its a hobby for them. While most of us can't afford them some can. I can't either but because of that I'm not going to slam the manufacturer or the retailer. These guns will get scooped up and go to a good home.
I purchased the WC Classic Supergrade about 6 or 8 months back, same price, and it is a beautiful gun, beautiful bluing, excellent trigger and fit and finish, but I can't shoot it any better than my other 1911's, and no where near as good as my X5's, but that is probably just my lack of skill.

There are a few key differences between a Supergrade and High end 1911 from Wilson or any of the other big four for that matter. Some are functional and some cosmetic. Firstly all Supergrades receive a lot more "bench time" than a typical high end 1911. They are worked on by Wilson Combat's 5 best gunsmiths with no restrictions to the amount of time they can be worked on. These models we have in stock were built by Jim Wilson himself and ordered over 2 and half years ago. Physically the Supergrades have the complete "Bullet Proof" parts installed and have extra serrations on the back of the slide which make up almost $700-$800 of the cost right there. When you lay them side by side and you might not be able to tell them apart other than by the slide markings or the deeper blueing but its the additional hand fitting that makes these pistols shine. The slide feels like it is on rollers and the triggers snap like glass tooth picks. The safety is so positive it makes Anthony Robbins look angry and has zero play in all of its functioning parts. Also they take down and go back together easier than any 1911 on the market! If it is your first pistol you may not appreciate, if your new to the high-end 1911 market and you cant justify the extra $2-3k then a CQB may be a better choice and you will be 100% happy. But to a collector or a guy who wants the highest level of craftsmanship available.... they will look to a Supergrade. It may not be for everybody or fit everyone's budget but it is an excellent option for those who can!!!
