How would a Rem 700 VS .223 with the kevlar stock, 24" bbl do for a target/varmint rifle?

I guess it would be the slower twist.... what, 1:12 or something?

You Rem experts out there, what kind of max range for target work with the lighter bullets out of this?

Overall a fine choice for varmints and not so serious target work. Most will shoot into 3/4 MOA or less as long as you stick with 40 to 55gr bullets. Ok out to 500 mtrs with the right bullet weight and no wind.
If your looking to use heavier bullet say to 69 gr. Sierras and 75 Amax then the Rem. 700PS with the 1-9" twist will be the way to go.
Just my two cents worth!

Go for it. I've owned several in the past 25 years. All of mine could shoot. My only biatch was the 12" twist barrel. I did not like being limited to a shorter bullets. Now, for a dedicated earth pig or coyote gitter, then that 12" barrel is just fine. Gophers within 300 steps are dead meat, too. Cannot forget those gophers !!

The actions of the Varmint Spl are great, stocks ? Well , I'm a synthetic stock kinda guy so that wonderful walnut is wasted on my shztty taste.

That said, I bought a Rem M700P with 9" twist .223 for my wife. What a great guy I am yuk, yuk yuk.

Happy Faja's Day !
