How about some double autos

I picked up a DA with steel receiver a skeet barrel and a modified barrel a few years ago. Early production model with the rivets at the rear of the forearm, so 1952-1954 vintage. Runs like a charm - i like using it on the skeet field thanks to its handling - even if I am never going to break 25 straight I can enjoy the ride.

So as promised here are some pics of the DA I picked up last year. It's a two barrel set, with the barrels choked as modified and improved cylinder and with the ventilated rib. It is an alloy receiver, produced in 1965 and is the relatively rare 'Twentyweight" version. While it doesn't have the family history of my first, which Gunsaholic bought from me, this is a lightweight, superb handling 12 gauge. And the second barrel is a bonus. It's also in great original condition.

I really like the safety on the Double Auto. Interesting that it hasn’t appeared on any other design (a true ambidextrous safety on a right-handed gun?). Were there problems or criticisms I’m not aware of?

I always really liked it as well and I have never heard of a complaint about it. I wish Manufrance had paid attention!

My latest D/A finally arrived. It has a 1963 production date. Same year and color as the one I got from you James except this one has no vent rib. The gun is in quite decent condition for the year with some wear to the gloss on the forearm and minor bluing wear to the barrel.

Brian, I know this sort of thing is sacrilege but I’d love to remove the rib from mine. Weight would drop a bit, getting it closer to 6 pounds even, and putting a higher proportion between the hands. Plus…..I’ve always loved the ribless barrels of my various M12s.

That’s a really nice looking DA. And cool it’s the same years as Duff’s gun.

Well, I put two boxes of Challenger target loads through it and two boxes of my one ounce reloads and flawless functioning. It’s just way too light for me compared to my target guns and not hunting anymore.

Thoughts on the name behind the trigger guard in last pic, “ Art. Cosman”. Engraving of name appears similar to engraving on the gun. Guessing a special order gun for a former owner. A Google search turned up nothing on the name.

There are some beautiful Browning double autos show in this thread.
Browning used considerable expertise in the finish of their guns back in the 50's and 60's. And, the expertise was not limited to high grade Superposeds as show in this thread.
Gotta love the Belgian Brownings.
