How Accurate are Bulk .30 cal. bullets?

I have a question which arises from another thread I have posted on the Precision Rifles forum:

http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2014140&posted=1#post2014140

Stated simply, I have a fairly accurate .308 target rifle that I want to shoot for fun over the summer. I don't expect that I'll be shooting much beyond 300 yards, though I figure I will be shooting regularly at 300 yards. If you've read my other thread, you'll understand that cost is a bit of a factor, but the rifle is a remarkably good shooter (and it has 9 lives). I don't want to shoot bullets that cost $30+ a box if I don't have to, especially since I'm just using this rifle to play. (For serious competetive shooting, I have other rifles and do not scrimp on components.)

So the question I have is how accurate are "bulk" bullets? Outfits like Higginsons advertise certain bullets that they sell in bulk for under $20 per hundred. For example, they offer Winchester 150-grain PPs and Hornady 150-grain FMJs at this price level. What is the reasonable accuracy potential of these bullets out to 300 yards, assuming a decent rifle? In my experience, it's rare these days to find commercial factory bullets that are not capable of shooting at least 1 m.o.a. or less, but how do these types of bullets stack up?

Do any of you have any recommendations or suggestions about suitable bullets in this price range?

One of the other things I plan to do with this rifle over the summer is use it to introduce some friends to rifle shooting. Obviously, I don't need to be using Lapua Scenars or Sierra Matchkings for this purpose. On the other hand, I need to use something that will at least shoot respectably out of this rifle.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

p-17 don't take this the wrong way but all bullets are produced in bulk then packaged. Don't see where the same bullet in bulk would be any different than one that is the same come out of a box of say 100. Packaging cost also.
Don't be scared of the bulk buy if you are only shooting paper.
My take on it Ken.

Thanks, Kodiak. My question was not so much with the "bulk" aspect as it was with the accuracy potential of the basic bullets themselves. Stated another way: How accurate are Winchester .30 cal Powerpoints or Hornady 150 FMJs (or similar cheap bullets of your experience)?

You are wanting to do lots of shooting so grab a big bag of each and give them a try. Let us know what you find out...

A bit of time with a micrometre and a scale could give some idea of the potential. I'm betting that if you find a bullet that your rifle likes some of the bulk bullets could work quite well.

I have used the Remington bulk pack 150gr .308 FMJ's and was very surpised at how well they worked. Have also used the Hornady 150gr .308 FMJ's, again very pleased with their performance.

With this in mind, I picked up some of the Winchester 150gr .308 PP's, haven't gotten around to using them yet (still using up the Rem's amd Hdy's), but can only figure they will work as well as the others.

Thanks, guys. This is great information. I was definitely considering either the Hornady FMJs, the Winchester PPs or the Remington PSPs.

From what I'm hearing, should I assume that these are all decently accurate bullets?

I've run the bulk Remington, Nosler Ballistic tips and Federal Fusion (factory load) through my 30-06. No doubt that the Bulk Remington are less accurate by about 1/2 to 1 MOA.

Nosler Ballistic Tips and Federal Fusions were both very good and about the same.
