How accurate is a type 97 bullpup?

Sounds to me like most people either love the t97 or hate it. Those who hate it make claims or 6'' groups, those who like it claim 1.5-3'' groups . . . I think the first group doesnt wanna admit that a 1k$ rifle can compete with tavor at 3k$. lol... the pictures I've seen show the T97 shoot groups all over the board; I'm not sure if its the shooter or not.

I picked up one that should be delivered on wednesday I cant wait to see it for my self.

In stock form with irons, off a bench rest the groups averaged 6-7" with bulk 55gr AE ammo. Now I have the FTU & lower installed on it, with a sightron 1-7. With the same bulk 55gr AE ammo I get 4" groups on average. I did shoot 5 rounds of Fiocchi 69gr SMK's through it, group size was around 2.5". For comparison that day I have my 14.5" AR15 out at the range too, it just has a aimpoint micro on it, with the same 55gr AE ammo I was getting 3-4" groups. All shooting done at 100yards.

I too wish it was just a little more accurate, but it is 100% reliable once I figured out what mags it liked.

It could be that shooting a bullpup for accuracy requires a different hold - notice the Israelis require a particular hold with the Tavor, using 3 points of contact, and the French make a lot of use of the bipod on the FAMAS.

Please do and post some actual honest results. I'd disagree with your post about the Tavor though. I'm a cheap bastard and would have gladly shown my 1" groups with stock irons IF I actually could produce them.
I also own and think very highly of my Norc M305 and my Norc 1911 both of which shoot as good as any North American original.

Sounds like an actual honest range report right there. I could see maybe 2-3 MOA with a scope and very good ammo (again I only have personal experience and observations of stock rifles with stock iron sights)
Call me skeptical, I never exaggerate my shooting skills. They are average and maybe a bit more depending on how comfortable I am with the firearm I'm shooting but the T97 with stock irons was by far one of the least accurate rifles I have ever shot and I've shot a lot of them.
Based on personal experience and first hand observations only here, I'm pretty much viewing anyone posting 2MOA groups on the internet with a stock T97 and stock irons as BS or very very skeptical lol
No offense to any of ye

I would expect 3-4" groups with bulk 55 grain unmagnified. Norinco will get you 4"+ groups.
Anything other than that is abnormal. That's just my experience, I'd like to be there to see 1" groups at 100M with irons. T97's aren't known to be match-grade AR15 accurate.

Let's put it this way: if you buy a t97 expecting it to be a 1 inch gun, you are going to be disappointed.

You got 1.5" groups at 100 yards with iron sights on a T97 using regular factory ammo?

Either my eyes are really bad, or you guys have telescopic vision.

Telescopic vision,,,Are you kidding?
Sign me up for the rifle team when CNIB starts one up.
Sometimes I am just lucky.

My best group ever is made me a laughing stock to my friends.
Was it with a swiss arms? No
A tuned up twenty inch scoped AR? No
A friggin SU16 of all things. My friends still have not stopped laughing.

As for the inch and a half group, yes I am not kidding and what is more my friends all did as much if not better.
It seems that I am not alone here either from the responses.
I remember seeing the posted, pictured, results from Dr Lectors shoot being spectacularly good for anyone wanting to find that.

Mine would consistently shoot 3-4" with bulk M193 ball, and I was fairly happy with that. But I had to drift my front post noticeably off to the side which made for a confusing sight picture, I was convinced it could do better.

I sold mine when I got the Tavor, but I still miss it! It had it's good points.

An su16 eh? Really not helping your cause lol

It seems these are highly variable, with some being better than 2moa with others being more like 5moa... i want one, but with my luck, I'd end up with a really bad one that doesn't feed and shoots like a shotgun...

Those pics are not proof enough? i guess its time to break out the gopro. It may be a few weeks, im sick as a dog. For anyone who wants to drop by i live in nb and my little range isint busy as it should be. Your all invited by to shoot it if your ever around. Then compare it to my other rifles. This little type 97 shoots, ever think that some of you guys are losing your vision as we get older? Im 42 and my eyes are not what they used to be, but ive been shooting since i was a kid and unlike many people i shoot for s%its and giggles. If i was shooting for money im sure i could do better. Ive shot many diffrent rifles (its part of my job) but with some practice and patience you too can improve your groupings. Next time im out i will bring the go pro so you guys can see from start to finish the entire series of groupings.

cheers
angry.
