How accurate is this video?

If your flash hider is not welded on then take if off remove the gas lockturn it over and tighten it up sometime this will do the trick. It should become hand tight at 5 o'clock then tap it with a rubber or plastic mallet to 6 o'clock (lined up). If this doesn't work then add a shim. I wouldn't cut one to put in place though if you can manage and I'm not sure if they're available at hardware stores but you can order them from Marstar. Hope this helps

I would not cut the shim. I can tell Princess lacks experience with tools. She used the open end of the wrench to break the bolt loose. Thinks the other end is to hang it on peg board.

Gee, for those of us who were at Hungry's clinic in Calgary would beg to differ on the "cutting" issue. Let's see there were about 6 of us whom were instructed to cut instead of going through the rigors of removing the flash hider.

My works fine and accuracy improved tremendously. The video seems accurate enough.

If you cant get the flashhider off becuase its welded .. ....... hit the flashider on the bottom base harder to get it off ( make sure you support the barrel see the stickies ) or follow the video you supplied ..it will do the job as well ..simple fix

getting the flashhider off wont be a problem. I got Dlask to chop the barrel and install one of theirs on. Im much more of a visual learner and youtube is great for that!

Has anyone thats done this, used shims from an unconventional source? I dont really need anything else from Marstar and to just place an order (plus shipping) for a set of shims seems silly to me. thanks for all the help!

Chances are any thing your going to find at a hardwear store is going to be to thick.I would think rubber would be a bad idea as you want it to be tight with no play. One of the Masters of the m14s on here showed me a neat trick, take the tightening screw peice of the gas cylinder off and count how many full turns it takes to get it off the threads. Now take it off the gun, turn it around 180 degrees and thread it back on, count the turns untill it tightens up on your gas system. It hopefully will allow you to tighten up more then the first way, and snug it right in. If this works you may not need a shim. If not then contact Hungry, M14 doctor or marstar I'm sure they can point you in the right direction. *your also going to need castle nut pliers to remove your flash hider*

Also if you are ever able to attend an M14 clinic do so, you will be amazed at what you will learn!

Hope that helps and makes sence

That actually does work , i just shimmed rifle maybe 2 weeks ago , my flash hider wasn't welded on which i found a bonus it came right off . I originally needed a .05 shim and .08 shim together but when i turned the gas lock around and used only .05 shim it started tightened right up at 430 and snugged perfectly at 6.
