How Agressive

Avoid using steel brushes as they can damage the metal in your gun. Use nothing stronger than brass.
Most solvents need to be applied and given time to work & then cleaned out. It does not have to be a labour intensive task.

Call me crazy but I'm not that fussy and unless there's a lot of lead or something in the barrel and it needs a thorough cleaning and I'd rather just use a BoreSnake.

If I feel I need to use a brush, I use either bronze or nylon.

But really my barrel cleaning regimen is:

Clean with Wipeout
Shoot the rifle until it pukes or I start to feel guilty
Clean with Wipeout
Repeat.

I never go hunting with a clean barrel.

IF I use a brush, it's a nylon one.
I hardly ever need to however, I use jags and patches.

Good point, when I use abrush, I actulaly use nylon most often these days, too. Especially with a copper solvent.

I use case neck brushes, easy to find.

Generally how often do you guys clean. I'm not talking about benchrest precision here, just average hunting.

I ahve a 223 wssm, I shot a box out of it and gave it a run with a little sovent and a few patches and it was nice and clean.
Then I had some guy tell me that with these guns, or any fast burners, you need to use a good steel brush constantly. Never fire more than 3 rounds with out doing it!

I have never been that regimental, and feel that would defeat the purpose that I bought my rifle for.

cleaning

I shoot a 204, 222, 6mm 300 and 6.5-303 and do NOT clean any of them very often. 204 and 222 have seen over 100 shots and not cleaned. Same for the 6.5. I may run a brass brushthrough, but more likely just use a jag.

Was this person perchance a barrel salesman? You're asking for trouble running a steel brush through your barrel anytime, much less after every three rounds...

The guy that told you that is a complete f&cktard.

With a steel brush? NEVER.

I use a good copper solvent and a nylon brush OCCASIONALLY, otherwise just patches, and I use a bore snake at the range.

Actually the biggest problem is improper cleaning methods and materials.

Perfect answer!

I use bronze bore brushes with a good solvent and never had a problem with accuracy or bore damage, use of a bore guide and proper brush diameter along with a quality stainless or coated rod will keep your barrel happy:D

I was given the same kind of info when I bought my new 30-06 stainless but only as breakin procedure. The story went as follows-3 rounds then run a brush and copper cleaner then patch, 3more same deal, then to 5 rounds eventually to 10 so that there were about 30-40 rounds through it. After that, clean and use as usual. Shoots real good. I was told the brass/bronze brush had something to do with easing tool marks in the barrel. Never a steel brush though and I never see them in the shops anyways-always brass. My
$0.02.
