How are groups measured?

Sorry, probably a dumb question but I forgot how groups are measured. Is it widest point, center to center of bullet holes or outside edge of bullet holes?

I measure from center to center of the 2 farthest holes in group.

I usually measure outside edge to outside edge then subtract the bullet diameter.

What the hell is there to measure, don't all rifles shoot 1/2 inch groups, that's what I have been hearing and seeing???? and that's @ 500 yds??

From center to center of the 2 furthest holes, then subtract at least 1/2" for publishing on this site, why would you want to be any different?

If you're shooting surplus ammo and/or using a factory rifle with a price tag of less than $400, then the gun shoots sub quarter minute groups. Why waste ammo trying to prove it?
