How bad is this rusty sks?

"...that rust looks very minor..." Does to me too. Looks like a previous owner didn't pay attention to all the 'How to clean after corrosive ammo' lessons on here. Oil and 0000 steel wool will take care of the easy to get at rust. Any rust remover like plain white venegar will deal with the barrel. Then give it a good regular bath and oiling.
"...dip it in diesel..." Won't do anything for rust. Makes 'em grease free and flammable though.

Well guys. I cleaned the crap out of it with hoppes...most of the ruzt is gone but some parts like the front of bolt and bolt carrier show black stains that wont come out. Also, the bore shows some light pitting. I wouldnt even fire this gun. Im really pissed and theres nothing I can do but wait till he gets the shotty...he said " then ill decide"....

I traded the sks plus 200$ for a hp9 in great condition, duracoated with tacstar side saddle, magpul foreend, sheath and check rest. A hell of a good deal for him and if the sks wouldve been in good condition, id be happy....if he doesnt send it back to me or gives some more cash, ill definately be pissed and screwed. Bad feedback doesnt even cut it...i guess ill have a 200$ wall hanger...

Light pitting in the bore is minor. I have had rifles with craters in the bore (old Tula m91 not 9130) that still shot 2 moa. If it is just a little sandblasted looking, than don't worry. Get out and drive some rounds downrange.

Make sure the firing pin still rattles and if there was any rust inside the bolt/carrier/ firing pin chamber and firing pin, it is all gone, lube her up good and fire it like everyone said, she will work well! The SKS is like the dirty girl we all know, she can get messy but still a ton of fun, the job gets done, and she cleans up good as new when its all over!

Give the guy a chance to come good.if he is unwwilling to compensate or is unresponsive then have at it.tracking number should tell you if he is bsing about having the firearm.all in all id say you didnt get what you paid for imho

Agreed.

Out him on here, he deserves it. Unless.................
Canada Post could have had the gun so long it just started to decay

Yes..if he doesnt come clean :) out him!

You know what I find amazing? Its how someone could mail a rifle off looking like that.
I know people are different,, and some can comfortably live in a pigsty and think nothing is wrong with that. And Ive been in thousands of homes and often unexpected so Ive seen a lot,,, but c'mon...who mails off a rifle looking like that? When they knew they were going to send it and had time to cleañ it.

Shipping took one day so I dont boame canada post. Lol.
Hopefully the guy is just a little unsavy about sks' and corrosive and once he gets the shotty he'll send it back...or atleast offer another 100$.

did u make sure to pour some hot water down the barrel and on the parts to get rid of the corrosive salts? you dont want it to re rust on you

personally i cant wait to know who it is...... a negative rating is a start but i would personally want to know myself so i avoid them like the plague.

Look at the OP's trader rating, then look at his most recent rating, one which he hasn't sent a rating to in return.

really? never new that, ive always use hot water, hopps 9 then lots of oil

According to a number of the old time milsurp guys who should know. I have been using Hoppe's #9 exclusively for a couple of years now for corrosive clean up and have not had a single speck of rust appear. I clean the bore with #9, then push an oily patch through and let it sit for a few minutes, then a dry patch. The gas system and bolt get #9 followed by a clean rag to dry everything off, then the bolt is lightly greased.

Our climate is also very dry, almost none of my guns get a storage coat of oil and are fine for years. In your coastal climate an oil wipedown is probably a good idea.

Like I said before...im ocd. I pour boiling water on everything, then i use hoppes 9 to make sure and to remove cabon built up, then oil, etc... never had any issues.
Ill wait and see what the other dude does...then we'll see....
