How big is the black rifle crowd in Canada?

black rifles are very common here with the CFB nearby. I would assume there are a lot of civilian AR's in the hands of army personell for personal use. The controls and dissassembly are exactly the same as work rifles and can be modified in millions of different ways.
 
Often I have thought of getting an AR-15. It is so familiar after using it in the Army. What stops me is that it is at present not a hunting tool as it once was. A U.S. Army buddy of mine that I worked with overseas told me he would be buying his M-16A2 once he finished his deployment. I felt like a second class citizen when he told me that and not a little humiliated.
