How can l shoot PRAIRIE DOGS in ALBERTA?

HI, I would love to shoot some prairie dogs in ALBERTA. I have shot them jn most of the western part of the USA. I just want to shoot them in ALBERTA.
PDS are all l shoot. l use bolt action rifles in 222 or 223 REM with good factory ammo. l always use a guide service.

Spot a PDT, find landowner and go ask for permission!! Most farmers have no love for them so if your respectful of their property and livestock Im pretty sure you’ll find most accommodating. If your polite, the worst that can happen is they say no!! Well apparently it’ll be ground squirrels!! Even better as they’re smaller targets. Edited after above post
 
I have never heard of a guide service for little varmints around here, but you can find opportunities for gophs (Richardson Ground Squirrels) by knocking on doors as was suggested above.

Not sure shooting them with a .223 is an advantage to advertise, most people are using .22s. The kids in my town use under 500fps pellet guns. I get why you would want to use .223, but some folks may want you to use something not as loud depending on location.

There are some east of Edmonton, north of highway 14. Left over from the game farm/polar park days. That's all acreage country now, difficult to hunt there. Apparently they ranged up to the SE/SW corner of AB/SK respectively. I've not seen then when I was down in that area though. Wasn't really looking, to be fair. - dan
 
I found STRAIGHT ARROW OUTFITTERS. They are in Tees, Alberta. John Fletcher is contact man. lt says they only shoot them in June.

Ive shoot praire dogs in Montana. By sweet grass.. Big like cats in the rocks mostly. Not sure if there are outfitters for that species..
Not sure about outfitters in M.O.
. We shoot alot of them east of coutts and milkriver.

Lots of ranch land farmer are welcome to shooters helping out. And huturites farms are good. Talk to the feild boss about plugging gophers
 
I was shooting gophers (Richardson Ground squirrels) east of Calgary from 1949 until I left in 1979 and never encountered a prairie dog nor heard of any in Alberta.

As mentioned a bunch of times above. No such thing as prairie dogs in Alberta. What we have are gophers or more correctly Richardson's Ground Squirrels. They are nothing like PDs.

The reason for only shooting them in June is that is the best time. The babies come out at the end of May but by the time July hits, the grass has gotten long and the gophers are much harder to see.
 
Prairie dogs live the The Frenchman River Valley Grasslands National Park in southern Saskatchewan. Small pocket of them.
Also not native but some in Horse Thief canyon near Drumheller.
 
I believe we encountered a prairie dog hammering gophers outside of Lethbridge years ago-thought it was a huge gopher from a distance..and we weren't sure there could be one that far north anyway?

Been VERY close to Montana in S. SK shooting gophers now plenty of times-never seen one but had also heard about there being a population of them in/around Grasslands NP, well west of where the Tikka roams. Be cool to see one, I'll get down to the US for my first PD shoot eventually. Have to find an outfitter with nice toys. haha

I lived on the border of the old Egremont and Glenelg townships in Grey County. Many of the locals there did. Maybe it was a very local thing. I remember we used to drink a lot, so that may have had something to do with it.
