How cheap can you reload 308?

Go cast and use Dominion powder. These 5 rounds cost me $0.22/ea. Used Fed Brass, S&B primer, Copper Gas check. Almost Free lead. Works out to less than $4.50 / box of 20



These are with a Lee C312-185-1R bullet cast with water dropped wheel weights sized to .309 when adding gas checks. Quickly tumble Lubed with 45/45/10 and loaded with 34gr D4895 for a speed of 2250 FPS.

I still have several pounds of WC735 that was $7/lb, Hornady 150gr bulk FMJ shoot almost as good as match bullets and are cheapish, that's about the cheapest plinker load I have going in 308.

We did a quick calculation for a friend this winter who shoots a 308 that I sold him .
Using 147 grain FMJ' from WASP for shooting steel out to 500 meters , we are loading for about $10 per box.
For my shooting inside 500 meters I rarely shoot the 308 anymore, my .223 is cheaper to shoot.

I just ordered the LEE dies for casting and powder coating 150gr and 170gr lead cast bullets. I suspect that if they perform well enough of 100M, then I am set. If so, should cost me about .26 per round.

These dies can be used for all .30 Cal 30-30 (lever), 30-06 and .308

I would guess the cheapest commercial bullets are Campro at 25 cents. Assuming you have a luck of getting primer for 5 cents a piece - you have 11 cents for powder. At about 40 grins per charge, it works out your powder price is $20/lbs. What was it and where I can get it at that price? Or you are using stashed materials from a decade ago?

At about 40 grins per charge, it works out your powder price is $20/lbs. What was it and where I can get it at that price? Or you are using stashed materials from a decade ago?

As he said the cast bullets can be made for very cheap. I have found with cast bullets reloading that even the powder loads are lighter , using Unique, Red dot or 2400 , many in the 10 grain range, a pound of powder lasts a long time. Canada Ammo used to have cheap Dominion primers and I hope we will see them again. The S&B brand was the next cheapest to buy, I found.
