How clean is clean?

Why not oil the wood stock? I use an oil finish on finished wood at work all the time, I've re-oiled hundred year old floors...don't see any reason not to oil it if it doesn't have a negative effect on the factory finish.

Other than not liking the way it feels, oiling wood is only good sometimes. If you apply it too often you could saturate the wood making it softer.
 
i clean my shot gun once a year or when it starts jamming realy your not going to hurt it too much. as honestly i find taht my rifles are more accurate and consistant with a few rounds through them wont take a gun into the field that i havent shot a few rounds through. clean them before you put them away for extented periods or you start loosing acuracy thats what i was taught
 
Wait. You're telling me there are guys who don't clean their guns and expect them to work when needed?
I guess it's like people who go 100,000kms between oil changes on their car and wonder why it craps out at the least opportune moment.
