How close are we to mandatory copper hunting bullets?

Thanks for your post, 3macs1, I had no idea such a plan was afoot in my own province. In my view, the NSFAH have given their blessing in advance, if the government decides to impose a law. This makes no sense to me, at all.

Probally not aware of this if you have not been exposed to part one. Yep given a grant of $9500 to buy us out. Sorry educate us they say ( F'kn imagine, not anti's we have to worry about )Problem is that won't exchange me and two of my buds. One box each WOW what about the other 80 plus boxes of factory lead centerfire I have plus all the components and reloads not counting the 22 stuff

Exchange Program To Obtain Non-Lead Ammunition
by Frank Oram on March 7, 2014

To all members,

Halifax Wildlife Association in conjunction with the Habitat Conservation Fund will be providing an exchange program for anyone wishing to obtain non-lead ammunition.

The lead in the ammunition we use is believed to cause major health issues for birds and animals and humans who eat the meat or offal from animals that have been harvested using lead ammunition.

Lead has been removed from paint, gasoline and many other products and HWA feel it is appropriate for hunters to take a voluntary step toward removing lead from the ammunition we use.

If you would like some non-lead ammunition all you need to do is email [/email] or call and let me know the caliber you want and give us a box of lead ammunition and we will give you a brand new box of non-lead ammunition.

This is our first year for the program and we have a limited quantity of ammunition as we do not know what demand there will be but will try to get what you need. Also, we are making a list for next year so that we can order the correct amount of ammunition and have it on hand.

So give us a call and get your non-lead ammo and you name on the list for next year.

Yours in conservation

Michael Pollard, President

HWA

I missed all this crap on NSH, but the sick eagles were found around Truro I believe. When I was at the dump (25km maybe away from Truro) there were at least 14 eagles on the compost pile eating out of it.

It'd be pretty hard to narrow it down to the odd bullet in a gut.

The funniest part is they are using our own money from the habitat stamps to get rid of lead ammo.

That really doesnt matter when antis are involved. Logic and common sense? Who needs that?

Eagles at the dump. Other than that, I have only heard of two situations, in NS, where eagles actually congregate to feed. Water spillways, such as the one at the Pictou causeway, where fish get injured, killed and also get washed up on shore. Winter season, when they tend manure piles, from heneries, which include dead laying hens. I can't help but think that eagles, eating fish, which may contain a chemical that their system is sensitive to, could be the big issue. Eagles do eat ducks, but that ammo issue has already been addressed. I've never seen an eagle feed on a deer carcass. So, it looks like rifle hunting bullets have become a scapegoat. Thanks for the info, guys. 3macs1, feel free to keep me posted, including what is being done to combat such ridiculousness. I'm sure I can drum up some support, if you know of a way to channel it. Thanks:)

I just looked at the HWA site. Clearly, non lead ammo is tops on their current agenda. They were granted $9500 tax dollars, for $5000 worth of non lead ammo. Their wording, "we believe" and "we feel", are clearly not giving me confidence that their mission is based on reality. I never heard of them before this thread, but I can quickly saw that I am not a fan.
