How close is too close to mount a scope to a flat top rail?

I just mounted a scope on my flat top XCR-L. I knew it would be a tight fit, but I didn't expect it to be this tight...

After I tightened everything up the bell of the scope is so close to the rail I can only see a sliver light. Nothing is actually touching the rail. I am able to slide a receipt completely under it that measured 1.5 thou on my MasterCrap calipers.

My cheek weld is good and my eye relief is set. I am just worried about flex while firing, causing the rail to contact the scope and throwing my shots.

Did I buy rings too low? Or did I find the mythical unicorn of optic over bore clearance that a lot of people chase?

as long as you can get a good comfortable cheek weld and no scope shadow at any magnification you are golden.

Thanks guys! The combo was Burris Signature Zee rings high and a Nikon M223 3-12.

If it was a .50BMG - I'd worry about scope flex. With a .223 - you're golden as-is.
