Hey all,

I am not big into the German milsurps but just picked up my second RC (bnz. 41). I noticed that the bolt was different than the one on my bcd 4 and did a little research...I believe the bolt on my bcd 4 is a K98a bolt based on the information I found.

The bolt body (pictures below) matches the extractor, but the other pieces are not numbered. The bolt is EP'd to the rifle of course.

Which leads me to my question, is this a 98a bolt, and if it is, how common are the K98a bolts on RC's? I figure, out of 1.5m 98a's made, with many being destroyed in the WWI and Versailles period, not that many were likely captured by the Russians.

I have been enjoying researching the RC 98's and was wondering if anyone had any more information on the 98a's captured by the Russians, and how common this configuration RC is.

Not common to see 98a bolts in RC k98k's but not rare either. I've seen quite a few posted up on various forums with 98a bolts in them.

98a's were often issued to German police and various other organizations in WW2. Not sure how much front line usage they saw. Many were still in use though right up to the end of WW2 so it's no surprise the bolts show up in RC's.

You see Czech VZ24 bolts in Russian capture German K98k's a fair bit as well. Rumania for one was armed with VZ24 mausers and thousands of Rumanian troops were captured by the Soviets. If you want to make your K98k more original there are probably a few guys looking for a 98A bolt who would swap for a K98k bolt in a heartbeat.

i had a Chinese bolt in my refurb CZ Israeli K98K . who knows how it got in there. parts have been flying around since 1898?.

could be anything. thats a good guess.it would be worth looking into if anyone else has a Chinese bolt on there CZ or reworked CZ mausers. but its just like us guys now. you see a cheap mauser missing some parts at a show and you pick it up and just replace them. I don't think guys even 15 years ago were as worried about getting the correct parts on there guns.
