Hi

I'm looking for leads to one of these rifles in 30-06, but there is little information I've found so far.
Has anyone seen one of these around on a used gun rack lately?

thanks in advance

The model 70's is very popular and is know as the rifle man's rifle. They were chambered in every imaginable caliber. 30-06 was extremely popular and very common during the war because these rifles were used as sniper's rifles by the US. Still a lot of older rifles kicking around, perhaps much more than new rifles because the 30-06 has declined in popularity in recent years.

Did you copy and paste that from Wikipedia?

There was a nice one chambered in 30-06 on the EE awhile back that I nearly pulled the trigger on....until I searched the intranet for a source of replacement magazines, they appear to be made of unobtanium.

They were only manufactured one year iirc. Happened to be the year I bought mine.

There was a guy on here selling a crap load of spare magazines in multiple sizes. Bought 2 spare...about $60 each.

To answer your question pure and simple they are not all that common. If memory serves they were only made with the detachable mag for a year or so in an attempt to attract the likers of detachable magazines. As mentioned in post #7 finding a mag for one if needed would be very difficult, and very expensive if found. Yomomma as posted above managed to find two at $60, bucks a pop. I would say he got very, very lucky in getting those mags and at a cheap price. You'll probably have better luck winning lottery than finding that deal again.

They are very uncommon. In the mid 90's a local store had two of them. One in 30'06 and one in the ultra rare 284 Win. Had I realized just how rare the 284 was..........

As a follow up, I got leads on two nice rifles: on a CRF and a push feed from this thread. I decided to go with the pushfeed, so that is in process.
Thanks!

I had two 7mm's over the yrs with dbm. The mags were not user friendly. Hard to put ammo in & had to fiddle a bit to get in or out properly. The gun was described as a Winchester Model 70 Classic with push feed. Mine were very accurate but to heavy for me so sold them. Would not buy another unless it came with 2 mags. There was a fellow on here selling some mags a few moths ago.

I have one, with THREE magazines, in .30-06. It is currently a loaner rifle for guys who hunt with me, and it shoots better than most people are able to do...............
