i am almost ready to purchase a CZ 858 and i was wondering how common the gremlin issue is. my friend has one and it has never had a single issue with about 1000 rounds fired. i have read the stickys and see it is not a big deal to fix, i just wanted to get an idea of how often this occurs. 1 out of 10 rifles. 1 out of 100? just curious.

I poll I did a while back showed the gremlin appeared in 1/4 to 1/3 of rifles, at varying degrees of frequency.

This was prior to the arrival of the CSA guns with the tabbed carriers.

file? eek! i ran 500/100 rnds no prob, read the gremlin thread and next trip out..gremlin!
all i did to fix it was tweek the sear spring up 1/4" and no more probs so far...i figured i would try the easiest/reversable fix before getting out tools...it worked for me ,easy fix

I doubt that was a very representative poll. The owners that have had a gremlin probably monitor threads related to that problem. I have never had a problem and I rarely look at CZ 858 threads.

The poll mirrored what I've seen personally quite closely. I've been around dozens of 858s and 2003s owned by shooting buddies and guys in classes. One in four is not an excessive number.

One of the two 858s I've owned had it. Frequency depended a lot on how the trigger was manipulated.

What I read was the gremlin was closer to a 10% issue. As for apperance it is supposedly caused by a defect in the upper reciever and bolt carrier. Everything i found on it said if you have a gun with the gremlin it should appear on your first outing to the range. There is also a great forum page in the red rifles section that shows you how to fix the gremlin. I actually watched and read the entire thing before buying to see if it was worth the hassel incase I bought a gremlin.

My 858 has been firing and cycling perfectly at 600 to 800 rounds since purchase. I have used both surplus ammo and recently packaged ammo.

Last thing to say; i love my 858. It fits in the hands well(once you replace the tiny ass pistol grip) fires well, is fairly accurate from any shooting position I have tried. I recommend one for sure.

I lied one more thing too, the ammo is so cheap comapred to most others that you feel like you stole it.

soo...if aprox 1 in 4 of these rifles have problems there should really be a recall of some sort yes? People certainly should not have to fix them themselves, especially if it is a new rifle.

It is pretty common

I have owned 2, 858's. On my first one I got the gremlin around 1000 rnds. My second one that I recently purchased didn't get the gremlin but the parts were not not properly assembled and it fired 3 rounds before the pins fell out of alignment. The second fix was quite easy, but there are some quality control issues with the factory. The shim they put in was too large so the side locking lever for the pins was not properly locked down.

I have seen 5 cz's including my own and of those 2 got the gremlin. So I believe the 1 in 4 number. Fortunately having the gremlin the first time makes the fix easier, but it still shouldn't happen.

Mine came up after about 20 rounds. My first cz. Made me very disappointed in cz. I still havent fixed it yet, and I havent been able to shoot more than 3 or 4 rounds in a row since.

Total bulls**t. You think they would just fix the god damn problem. But we all know us canadians will take it up the arse to have any AK-like firearm.

The main problem is that there are TOO MANY FIXES for the problem. And I don't know which one mine needs as it depends on your type of gremlin.

I don't know how to fix it, honestly even though I've read the god damned sticky 5 times. makes the rifle worthless.

Yah, me too. Previous owner had carrier tabbed, but the tab broke off on account of poor welding. Still haven't had a problem once I shook the tab out so I didn't care then, and don't yet. No Gremlin.
