I have been looking for a Commander size 1911 (4-1/4" barrel) in 9mm caliber. Last time someone did sell a Colt on EE, but it was SPF even before I saw the post.

I am willing to buy any brand except STI, because I hate the look of them. But it seems that nobody else makes this type of gun, or at least nobody else in Canada sells them.

Could anybody shed some light on how I could find and order such a pistol from any dealer in Canada, or how I could import one from the U.S.?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

First I'd hope to know which manufacturer makes a 4-1/4" commander in 9mm.

If I find one in a U.S. gun show, or web site, how do I import it? Has anybody done that and how? And it is a lot of money for the documents, right?

Someone on the board bought one of these

Big $$$

It's really too bad Kimber chose to go with a shorter barrel instead of a 4.25". I would buy one even if I had to sell little Timmy's iron lung.
Para, no commander, Springfield, no Commander, The BUL has a polymer frame and is not a real 1911.

The Colts on www.gunbroker.com are going for waaay more than they initially cost. Check out the buy-now price on this one. I sold one of these in mint shape last year for $600CDN!

I think there's a market, but really only STI and some custom makers seem to be making them.

I looked at the BUL one. Hate the hi-cap plastic frame, too. What is the point of hi-cap if only 10 rounds are allowed?

Proproulx, you are right. I did all the similar searches, and results are the same. Wished I could import a Colt from the U.S.. I just saw one in the Monroe gun show last weekend.

What about a Ranger II from STI? Freedom Ventures can give you more details. I've shot a 9mm 5" Trojan and found it very nice.

***EDIT*** Sorry, I didn't read where you mentioned that you didn't want STI. They are nicer looking in person, though.

STIs are too far away from the original 1911. Too many "modern" touches. I know they are high quality pistols, and they are available in Canada. But I just don't like them.....
I know that some of their double-stack models have a more modern look (I must admit I'm not a big fan of that square trigger guard) but the single-stack ones have a more "classic 1911" look. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the model name lettering on the slide--it's a little gaudy for me. Other than that though, they look similar to other current 1911's.

Questar can import stuff from the US for you.
Thats funny.I inquired about getting a STI Ranger imported and they said they cant because it wasnt one of the products they carry.
Anyways I settled on the Trojan wich is a awesome gun but still want the Ranger.

pc9,

Freedom Venture has the .45 Ranger II on their web site, but I don't know whether they have the 9mm version.

One way to have a 9mm Commander is to have Gunnar or Dlask build one. The cost will be around $1,000 - $1,300, depending on what parts they (or you want them to) use. I may go this way....... Haven't decided yet.

I am looking for a 9mm.
I talked with Dlask a few months ago and they quoted me over $1600.00
Freedom Ventures said they would eventualy get some in 9mm but when is unknown.
