Same as above, but my buddy and i have been out 7 times and 6 deer so far down , mine were a big spiker, a big doe and a 2 year old 7 pointer, his were a spiker, a big doe and (grumble) an 11 pointer , huge rack! i still have 2 tags and a week and a bit to go !

I think it deserves being told again . . . some would say bragging! I agree.

The mule deer season in Region 5 is four points in September, changing to bucks on October 1st while white tails are any buck. I bought my first white tail tag and one for mule deer. I had never hunted white tails, and never seen one while hunting.
Early Thursday, I saw a half dozen antlerless and one mule buck. From a sitting position at about 100 yards I was comfortable.
My Remington 700 .30-06 from 1965, and a 3 – 9 power Bausch & Lomb 3000, was hand loaded with a 180 grain Hornady SST over 55 grains of H4350.
The buck was hit solidly through the lungs and did stott away.
After standing and walking a short distance, I saw a white tail buck about 100 yards from where I shot the mule buck, and a new season was about to start. After the shot he turned back but his progress was slowed, and I fired one insurance shot.
My first assessment was two four points (in less than a minute) a hundred yards apart but a later count made them both out to be five points.
The front halves were given to my host families. The white tail hind went to the locker at 65 pounds and the mule at 68.
Unfortunately, in my euphoria, no pictures were taken but the antlers are saved.

This was my first year hunting anything. Went out last saturday to try some bow hunting but saw nothing. Monday I went out with my savage 10ML II. Didn't see anything all morning so I went home for lunch. Got back out at 2:30-ish and was enjoying the afternoon but hoping something would show up. At around 4:30 this little buck walked out of the bush about 150yds away but right straight ahead. He was crossing the corner of the field headed to the standing corn next door. I didn't have much time so I plugged him at approx. 125yds. He took off for the corn field but changed direction and came straight at my stand. He dropped about 25yds in front of me and breathed his last. Not sure what he weighed but I'd venture a guess at 140-150lbs on the hoof. The bullet clipped the front shoulder, went through at least one lung, clipped the heart and liver. I had a doe tag left after this one but didn't get one. The closest I came was a big 6 pointer staring me down about 200yds away on the way out on tuesday. Didn't see the doe hiding behind a knoll till it was too late and they both took off.

Who says I didn't mess up the interior?

I'll tell you, after I shot it the reality set in - I was alone. I had to pull that f**ker out by myself. After I finally managed to shove it into the back of the car, I had to wipe.

Lol....Some how I have this mental picture of you driving down the road with his head hanging out the trunk with his tongue stuck out.
Yeah...he looks like a bruiser. It must have been fun hauling his dead ass out of the bush to where you could get the car to. Even gutted he musta weighed a bit. Then after be winded dragging him out,...then you gotta get him up into the trunk...

I feel for you Ontario hunters with your short seasons.

I've only been out twice, close to town, and no game so far.

There are 9 days left in my area, and I fully expect to fill at least 3 tags. Just meat deer you understand, a trophy takes at least a few more days out than that in Alberta!

I finally connected a few days ago. Biggest one so far. It is already in the freezer 94 lbs of whitetail!! 134 1/8 green done at home with a Boone and Crocket score sheet printed off their website. Ya I'm happy!!

are you sure it only went 134" Thats a very nice 4x4. I was wondering if maybe you forgot the inside spread? Either way thats a dandy buck congrats. Hell if I shot it, it would be a 160":D

Lots of deer in MB this year. But I would say the whole rut/behavior pattern is about 3 weeks late.

Every year I try to get to MB to visit my dad and hunt deer with him. Usually I try for opening week and friday of that week is my self imposed end of season. Most times I hope to have a deer down by Wednesday to give me a bit of time for butchering before I make my way home.

This year I saw 11 deer in the first 3 days. Buck #3 spotted on Monday was a monster, and I passed up other deer the next few days hoping to get another glimpse of him. No such luck. Buck #11 presented himself at 200 yards in the last few minutes of legal shooting on Wednesday. Small horns but a decent body. Bang flop with a 180BT from my 300WM.

Ironically:rolleyes:, I happen to get a second buck in Saskatchewan on the way back west Sunday night on highway #16 just east of maidstone. Hit it the first time at close range with a 21,000,000gr Dodge Silvertip at about 108fps.

The bullet retained about 99.999% of it's weight.

That "slow" bullet created quite the "bang-skid" but a second shot from my 300wm was required to finish it off.;)

800 yard buck drag in the calf sled

I am red in the face from dragging this guy across the prairies in southern manitoba.
Luckily there was frost on the ground and lots of ground cedar to make the calf sled slide a bit easier.
Rough scored 139 7/8 before deductions, 131 5/8 afterwards, being a 4 X 5 ended up costing a bit.
