I walked into Reliable Gun to try out an MR-1. They didn't have them in stock but I ended up walking out with these (P30L I already had). Did I do alright? ;)

range report on the Deyra coming soon, but surely that's of no interest to you rifle guys.

I'd say you did pretty damn good! :) I really like the classic look of the Meprolight sight on the Tavor. I'd say there'd also be a fair amount of black rifle guys interested in the Deyra range report, too.

Yeah, it was a used Gen 1. Got (what I feel) was a pretty awesome deal on it.

My budget was $2000 so I couldn't really get a new one or any on the EE since they'd be sold quickly. I'll play with it, enjoy it and decide if it's my style. If not I doubt I'll lose much. While the Deyra is unproven, my new philosophy is to only buy reliable firearms, no more cheap crap. Tavor fit that bill. :)

It was always my dream gun, just thought I'd have to pay $2500 + optics. Not sure about the bullpup yet, It's either this, XCR or SL-8. All very different firearms but we'll see how this goes.

By the way, if you find the trigger on the Tavor too stiff there is a mod where removing one of the springs in the trigger pack reduces the pull weight by like half (doesn't work on the gen 2s). Of course there are also the Geissele trigger components.

I would agree you got a pretty good deal, especially if the optic was included in the $2k price. If you do end up enjoying the rifle, it gets pretty easy to sink another thousand bucks into it in aftermarket parts.

So finally got them both out the range. I don't see why people gripe about this trigger, seems fine to me. My biggest problem was the fact a bullpup doesn't fit me. I want to try out an XCR now, or a bushmaster.

I really enjoyed shooting it, although only put 40 rnds down range on it (I was shooting the Deyra and my pistols as well). I think I'm going to be going for more of a bench gun that can be used as a battle rifle, rather than make this fit.

I like it, but not my cup of tea. Love the Mepro21 though, great optics.

I'm pretty set on NR, but Yeah Dave I'm down for trying an AR. Last one I shot was a Norc... so there's that. ;) When are you going next? I'll be there again Friday depending on how much snow we get on Whistler.

Thanks for the offer Mike, unfortunately I'm never in that area. I'm just happy I tried it, and now know the bullpup isn't for me. My budget on the new one will basically be what I get for the Tavor. ACR is probably out, XCR is doable and I know I can get a nice AR for the money.

I don't think you'll be happy with an xcr as a bench gun. The accuracy just isn't there. A nr acr or modern hunter/varminter would probably be better although more expensive.

Yeah, you'll probably like my Colt a lil more than a Norc... I might be there tomorrow as well, again depending on the freezing levels and whether it snows or rains on the mountain...

She's dumping now. ;) I'll pm you my info, we probably know each other. haha

It is a dilemma though. I already spent more this week than I should have so I don't want to drop another cent. I've got a pretty good setup, but there's just not enough money.

My thoughts are this:
XCR
Pros: within price range, the look want (yes, I want tacticool, sue me;)), Non-res, 5.56, uses AR mags
Cons: accuracy issues, quality issues

ACR:
Pros: Look, non-res, AR mags, accurate
Cons: cost, availability

AR:
Pros: look, accuracy, AR mags obviously, Price
Cons: Restricted

HK SL8:
Pros: accuracy, within price range, like the look, NR
Cons: only seen them available here in .308 (don't need another unless I sold my rem 700), mags expensive, parts expensive, heavy * correction, I'm not smart and they're apparently only .223. I did not know that.

VZ58:
Pros: Cheap cheap, NR, available in 5.56
Cons: accuracy, mags, not a fan of the look

Not interested in Kel Tec, norcs or any bullpups... Modern Hunter is just WAY too expensive as well.
