how different is the NP22 to a real Sig?

Hello,

Love the Sig and want a 226 but having trouble justifying the price. How close of a copy is the NP22? Has anyone held them side by side? I assume that the Sig has better fit and finish but how much better? Is it night and day differences?

Thanks

I have both...the Sig is much nicer overall but the NP22 is a great gun for the price. They are pretty close as far as parts interchangeability (not counting the finish, etc.). I'd say grab an NP22 and shoot the snot out of it. You won't be disappointed.

Yes night and day difference. One is a finely crafted firearm with a proven track record the other is a Chinese knock off for half the price, mass produced with poor qc. Different metals are used, springs etc. If you don't care for quality then buy the norc

I could see if it were only half the price but new to new you can buy 3 Norcs for the price of 1 Sig
I do care about quality and that's why I am asking because I haven't had them side by side to see if the Sig is worth three times as much

Ive owned both, The SIG is nicer better fit/better finish(though SIG's finish isnt great) but there is nothing wrong with the nork. Its a work horse and it will do everything the real deal will do as long as you dont mind machine marks and heavy DA pull (which you can lighten with some SIG or Wolff springs)

It is diffcuilt to compare Sig and Norinco. Sig is well made and reliable but over priced. Norinco is a shooting iron and is a well known budget gun. I have two Nor 1911 and like them all.

Triggers

I have a Norc copy of the 226 in .40(NP-58, i think).

It was the first pistol I ever owned, SHoots just as accurate as my buddy's HK USP etc.

I found that the grips were less than awesome so I Hogue after market grips and it feels like it doubled its value.

I have found the firs trigger-pull very heavy and it usually causes me to drop a slot unless I run it Isaeli Style. I also find the follow up shot to break late. There is a lot of travel/Slack between the reset and the shot.

I would love to hear of of where to get a new drop in Trigger.

It is also worth noting the Norc Mags are all metal versus the sig mags(made by metgar) which have have plastic base plates that I have had break when I drop them.

I would say wait and save up the cash for the real deal. I had a buddy in the same situation, went with the norc, found he liked the platform but still longed for the real thing and ended up getting it about a year later...Sigs are crazy expensive but you will end up with a quality pistol you'll have for a long time.

Buy the Norc (you can always sell it for almost what you paid for it), and use it while you're saving for the real deal (if you decide by then that you want a real Sig). Win-win.

Sigs are beautiful, generally run and feel great. They've apparently had their share of manufacturing problems recently, so some are wary of them, particularly at the price.

I recently took a pistol course using a Norc NP22. Others were using Glocks, Sigs, HKs, and a CZ. I seemed to be shooting better than the rest, so I switched with another guy (Glock). I was still ok (took a bit of getting used to). He shot better with the Norc. Go figure.

So for the price, the Norc was fine. Upgrading the grips and getting a trigger job/smoothing seems to good investment, but you can do that over time.

Buy the norc with 2000 rounds of 9 and be happy or threat yourself with the real thing.

In a few years, will it really matter that you saved 500$ on the gun and was able to shoot 2k more rounds? Only you know :)

I had 3 P226's and 1 P220 over the years. I sold my last one about a month ago, but kept the NP34. Main reason is I got a smoking deal on the Norinco and I can get a LOT more money for the Sigs, so it wasn't that I think Norinco is just as good or better just I would rather have the $$$ and cheaper imitation of the 'same' gun.

Plus P226/220 are not my favorite design (I like the compactness of the NP34 more), but Sig makes great quality guns no doubt. I still love my SiG 1911 Carry.

There is no substitute for a real Sig. I was going to buy a NP22 for my first pistol cause I wanted a Sig P226 but decided to get a Sig P226 classic instead and then bought a 9mm x-change kit. No regrets. I like quality, not to say Norinco can't make good firearms, but you will probably still want a real Sig after purchasing the NP22.

Agreed. Buy the norc and if you like the platform save up for the real deal. The norcs can be sold for almost what you paid for them and there never appears to be trouble selling them.

This Norc is my first and only handgun. My reasoning is that I wanted to learn shooting and the only way to do that is to put a lot of rounds down range. Later I'm sure I will get more handguns but for now I put the money into ammunition and can always sell the Norc later.

Out of the box I found the Norc to be a bit rough around the edges and very sticky. However I after a good clean and lube it is quite slick and have never had any failures on the range.

edit: grammar and more details

No one has ever had to justify the purchase of a SIG. Norinco fans constantly try to justify their purchase by saying "for the money its a good gun." Well, for the money of the REAL SIG, its more than a good gun.
