I have received a bolt from 7.62mmfirearms and soon all the internal guts will be in.
Just curious how difficult it is to assemble the bolt

Assuming you don't have a bolt assembly block tool, an easy method to assemble is to use a 30-06 case and your receiver as an assembly tool. The multi-tool works but requires much more of a third hand and care of springs flying out.

Basically, you would put in your firing pin, extractor spring and ejector spring(which you have to check alignment once in the receiver). Insert the 30-06 case into the chamber and carefully push the bolt face against the base by pushing forward on the oprod. This will compress the two springs and when you insert the extractor, followed by setting it with a plastic hammer.

Once you have the extractor in place, check that the bottom pin doesn't extend past the bolt surface as this can lead to bumping your extractor out while loading/firing, causing lots of grief.

Before you assemble your bolt, you should check fit and lap the bolt into the receiver accordingly with the bolt unassembled and using the proper headspace gauges.

I had the feeling that it would be over my head.
I would have to see how it's done before I would attempt anything like that.
It's takes too long to get the parts into Canada I would hate to ruin it.
Thank you for your advice I really appreciated it!

Im sort of in the same boat and i know it sucks , i have some upgraded springs from wolf that i want to install and when i saw what i needed to do i was worried about damaging them .

You can't hurt the bolt. Worst case you might bend the ejector, but the Norinco one is fine - just use that if you bust the 762mm one.

I will just send it to m14doctors it was just something I was thinking I might like to try assembling and myself.
It would have went to him anyways.
M 14 they are way too addictive it cannot be healthy for you HA-HA

In order for 762mmfirearms to send a bolt to Canada it must be in parts so I ordered the bolt body first now I should have the guts in any time now.
I was reluctant to put my money on the bolt to begin with.
I'm no expert but it does look really good to me and I'm glad I ordered it

The 762mm bolt is made to GI dimensions. I had an opportunity to compare one to a real GI bolt a couple weekends ago at the Ottawa clinic and it looks awesome to me.

It's forged, machined and heat treated to the original drawings - I was impressed.

I have read a couple of short reviews on this site before I ordered it.
Half the fun is trying to get my hands on parts!
7.62mmrinfire hopefully has made things a lot simpler.
Good to know you were impressed with them at the clinic.
It does take quite a while for them to clear customs but I think it is worth the wait.
It is much harder and impossible to find a brand-new m14 bolt in Canada

There IS An Easier Way

Y'know, there is an easier way.

What I did was to use some heavy canvas (any old rag will do) and wrap the bolt and GENTLY put into a vise. The 30-06 shell works good, so does a .308 casing, and take other end of the rag and fold over the casing. The rag will catch any springs that go "ping". If you don't use a vise or something to clamp the bolt, ya kinda need three hands.

It works slick as snot!

Thanks guys for all the practical advice and positive feedback it is appreciated.
No one has given me a hard time about accidentally writing abolt instead of a bolt.
It is nice when people don't give you a hard time over spelling and grammar mistakes instead you guys gave me solid advice thanks again.

I ordered a bolt right from 762mmfirearms web site but I received a stripped bolt. It doesn't say that the bolt is stripped on their site. It says "Hammer Forged Bolt." Is there an implication I missed here?

When I ordered my I asked them about that and was told they cannot send a completely assembled bolt into Canada.
That is why I got the bolt body first and had to order the bolt guts separately.
Such is the world we live in we are lucky enough to get them in parts.

Sorry guys I'm about to hijack my own thread! HA-HA
anybody with experience using Marstars M14 tactical scope mount?
I bought one for my mini red dot sight but it is too small for my red dot to clamp onto!
Is there an adapter for it?
Only reason I'm asking on this thread is because my next custom job will be stripped down to be as light as possible . I would like to use it on my next rifle, I would stick with Ironsides if I had better eyesight.

the 7.62 firearms bolt and any usgi spec bolt WILL require correct fitting/lapping upon install. These will not be drop in parts. They may close on an empty chamber with full lug engagement BUT fitting and lug lapping are essential for correct and safe head space.
It's not rocket science and can be done at home by the layman BUT you will need a correct headspace guage for the chamber dimensions you desire. It has also been my experience that the only option for chamber size will be .308 commercial or in the neighborhood of 1.630/ 1.631. Which is good..... excellent in fact, but will mean your rifle's chamber will not safely chamber 7.62 nato as it will be a 4 or 5 thou crush fit and can lead to out of battery or slam fires. Lapping the new bolt out to match 7.62 nato headspace (1.6345) or even close to that risks cutting through hardness layers on the receiver and bolt and IS a #### loss inducing siuation in any rifle :D
Not trying to spread doom and gloom or panic about installing a usgi bolt or a 7.62 firearms bolt, but folks should know that they should not expect a drop in and shoot item.
for those wanting these parts fitted, thier are plenty of us here on cgn that can walk you through lapping in a bolt. It's a rather interesting and gratifying job when you can do it yourself and see the results down range when yer done ;)

as for bolt assembly/disassembly , we do have the M14Doctor bolt tool availlable in good supply, works awesome, I use mine daily ;) visit m14doctor.com for details, info@m14doctor.com to order.

Thomas raises some excellent points. I don't want anyone running off an ruining their rifles/bolts if they are not comfortable, but a forum search will show a thread where I photographed step by step how to lap and fit an M14 bolt.

As for GI ammo, interestingly, IVI ammo always gauges within SAAMI - presumably made undersized (for NATO) to increase reliability in the FN. I've shot it in match chambers with no issues, though I will not do that with a semi-auto typically and definitely not with any other make of NATO ammo.

Calvin2 I looked around but did not find it there is so many threads in this site!
It would be nice if there was a sticky on the subject.
It would help a lot of us guys that are new to M14 to have you guys is advice handy.
I own lots of rifles but just. Started playing with m14 clones.
