How do I "decontaminate" my gun?

I'd say the safest thing you could do while shooting is wear a respirator while shooting and wear gloves, either disposable or ones that cover your hands. Along with a long sleeve shirt you should be minimizing your exposure.

And yes I have seen people/RO's shooting with a respirator at our range.

If you smoke, I don't see why you'd be concerned about lead...

hahaha love this post!

Historically people have rationalized all sorts of unhealthy activities just because everybody seemed to be getting away with it with no ill effects (at least at first)... smoking, excessive drinking, drug use, overeating, exposure to overamplified music... etc. etc. etc. I don't much give a crap because I seriously doubt that anyone who has "contributed" to this thread:
a) is an athlete who takes his physical conditioning seriously or...
b) knows anything about the actual scientific research regarding the long term effects of lead exposure.

Yuk it up morons.

Here's tip for when you don't want a lot of stupid answers: Don't ask stupid questions.

Do you want a 100% guarantee way to NOT get lead poisoning at a range.

Keep that attitude. You are already guarantee to NOT get lead poisoning from DVC with your life time ban. Bring that attitude to POCO will guarantee the ROs will throw you out so quick chance of lead poisoning is ZERO.

Yuk it up morons.

And the 1961 Trail Smoke Eaters probably think you are worrying a little bit too much.

They grew up and lived in the shadow of the largest Lead Zinc smelter in North America and managed to compete at a fairly high level. I'm sure a little bit of range dust isn't going to hurt you too badly.

OK folks I think it's best to stop feeding the little troll now.. Me thinks the OP is playing with things that are too dangerous for him and he ought to dig a hole bury them and then dig another hole and crawl in.

I'm pretty sure my farts have enough lead in them to cause dangerous levels in anyone that inhales them....

Freeflier, I only said this was a funny thread and then gave you a little common sense hygene tips to keep your freeflying mind at ease from LEAD CONTAMINATION, then you called everyone here Morons? I, and alot of people I know have worked in places like Trail COMINCO so the advice I was giving was good as most of the CGNs and answering your overreactive but legit question. mabey World of Warcraft would be a great new hobby no lead and you wont have to communicate with the masses if you dont want to, (my son does this a lot)
Yuk it up morons.
Still this thead makes me laugh! But it is somewhat legit !Laugh2

As a new shooter I was completely unaware that shooting exposes one to significantly toxic levels of lead.

I don't think there's reason to be too concerned about lead exposure at the range, particularly outdoor ranges, so long as you take reasonable precautions. I'm pretty sure that if I end up dying from range-related lead poisoning, it will be because I've accidentally shot myself

I'v done it all, soldered with lead , handled thousands of them .177 pellets hell I'm sure they were in my mouth as a kid to , tightened fishing line knots with my teeth that had lead weights on the end, shot with lots of lead , ate game that had leads pellets marinating in the meat etc etc and I'm fine!

I have a buddy that was shot with a 16 gauge accidentally when he was in his teen's and the hospital couldn't get all the shot out and he is still fine many years later!
