I have recently been given a sporterized p14 enfield. The action is in good working order but thats about it. The rear sight has been ground off and the front sight has been cut in half and a partridge sight installed. The stock has hand carved checkering which is kind of neat and the new rear sight comes off of some other enfield a dovetail has been ground in it to install a buckhorn sight. How do i save this rifle?

You don't, it's way to far gone. If it's in a decent calibre and has a decent bore, use it as a hunting rifle. bearhunter

I don't want to restore the rifle to its original form but I would like to restore it into a hunting rifle. Any advice on that would be appreciated because right now this gun is just an ugly pile.

You might want to consign the buckhorn to the rubbish bin, fill the slot with a blank, and as sunray said, drill and tap it for a scope. You can't hurt it much anymore. Oh yeah, just do away with the front sight as well.
You should wind up with the equivalent of a Remington Model 30.

I was at the local range yesterday with a fellow who had two of these along. He regularly gets 1.5 MOA out of 1918 barrels with his assorted Enfields and his original Model 30.

The old boys who made those things originally knew how to make a good barrel. And Enfield rifling seems to turn in a reasonably-accurate life of something like 12,000 rounds, so pretty hard to go wrong.

Here's my bubba'd 1917 Enfield with rear sight ears removed and floorplate straigthened out. With a bit of elbow grease, they make a pretty sporting rifle. I did mine when they were plentyfull and cheap. Luckily, I saved an original 1917 Enfield as well in excellent condition :dancingbanana:

+1 ,Rifledude that is a beautiful project. I always thought a P17 would make a
great hunter due to the popularity of the 30-06.(assuming I am not getting the P14 and P17 mixed up again).

I have a P17 action that I turned into a 6.5-06. The thing shoots flat and straight and with that action its as solid as ever. When I'm having a good day 3/4" groups at 100 yards. These actions are well worth the time and effort in my opinion.
