I was reloading ammo for my 30-06 the other day everything was going good. I had done up about 20 rounds and then starded my next 20 so i started with D-priming and resizing the cases. I got to the fourth case and poped the primer out pressed down the resize the full length and when I went to pull the ram down it was stuck so i put more pressure on it and the case rim ripped off. Now I have a re sizing die with a case stuck in it. Tried to pull it out with pliers but not working. Anyone have a idea how to save my die?

Get an rcbs stuck case remover. It makes it very easy. You can also 1/4" drill and tap the primer end after you unscrew the sizer/deprimer stem. Insert the same sized bolt through a spacer and thread the bolt into the case and pull it out. I am not good at explaining the procedure but it is quite easy.

A drill bit, a 1/4" NC tap along with a socket, 1/4" bolt and washer will work as well as anything.

Back off the decapping stem as far as you can without it coming into contact with the case at it's neck.

Remove the die and stuck case from the press.

Drill out the case through the primer hole and thread with the 1/4" tap.

Select a socket from your tool box that is just big enough to go over the end of the die.

Screw down the die lock ring to near the bottom of the die.

Place the socket over the end of the die and rest the lip on the locking ring ensuring there is a bit if space between the end of the stuck case an the inside of the socket.

Pick a bolt that is just long enough to reach through the end of the socket and the case head. (Place the washer between the socket end and bolt head)

With everything screwed together slowly turn the bolt in with a wrench which should draw the case out of the die.

i just use the decapping rod and a hammer to free the case- or take the nut off, and put a steel rod on top of the decapper to make it long enough- just use a non-marring hammer so you don't goof up the threads on the decapper-

I bought the case remover but it still won't budge! That is one stuck case :( this Sucks

Take out the decapping/expander rod. A short(6") 1/8" brass rod should fit into the hole. Apply a plastic mallet to the end. Brass won't bother the die and neither will a plastic persuader.

I did the same when I first started reloading and could not get the case out. I sent the die back to Lyman or RCBS, can't recall which die it was, it was way back before we had colour TV? The nice people at Lyman or RCBS sent me a new die, FREE? Things may have changed a bit now?

Fixed it!! I just let some case lube seep into the die over night and then in the morning it broke free with a good arm crank. Thanx guys for all your suggestions.

Glad you got it out.
for referance
Please only hammer lightly on a Lee decapper (after loosening the collet nut). The other makes are not designed for that stuff, and won't take much of it.
Yes, you can even bend a Lee if it's stuck tight enough.
