How do I get H110 44 mag flames?

Alright, so I shot my 629 6.5" 44 mag today. Holy @*# what a gun! Now I understand why it's a reloader's gun. Very accurate too. It can recoil like 9mm or turn into a hand cannon. Bench rested at 25 yards and was able to get 1" groups with 3 shots using 6gn of titegroup with Lee 240gn lead cast boolit. 10gn titegroup max loads (according to Layman) is no comparison to 23gn of H110.

I shot a few factory 180gr 44 mag REM and holy flames. I can't even come close to that with H110 using ~23.2gn with 240 boolit. I'm using from what I gather, a light crimp. I meaured unfired round and after 5 magnum shots, length increased about 0.002".

How on Earth do you guys get nice flames like factory REM?

Maybe it's my crimp!? I have no clue.

It should be over 23gn. Eventhough I have two crap scales. I backed them up with both multiple times to make sure.

I dunno. If it is powder issue and I won't know unless I keep loading it up and I don't think I will.

Since you see good flames with 23gn, what loads do you start seeing less?
 
Crimped them harder this time. Every time I reload new batch, I still double check powder weight. Dillon powder dispenser still dispensing 23+ gr. No flames. :(

Now I have to really be careful, I have many different types of powder on hand. I load titegroup and H110 for 44 mag. I wonder what may happen if I feed it 23 grs of titegroup? Forsure, not going to try. lol

I wonder if anyone tried WC-735 (surplus stuff from Higginson) for 44 mag. I have 14lbs of this stuff just arrived today for reloading 223. :) Surprised to see it just comes in a box with a bag of powder. Can't complain though. $17/lbs. Good thing I didn't dump my empty 1lbs bottles. I'll use it for this.
 
A case full of WC735 won't give you full .44 Magnum velocities, as it is fairly slow burning for the case capacity. It might work for 900-ish fps loads and will probably give you lots of muzzle flash.
 
Buy some 180 gr. jacketed bullets and load them with H110 and you will get flames, I load them just below maximum load and get huge fireballs out of my 3" 629.

If you're getting 1" groups, even though it's off a bench, leave it alone. The muzzle flash doesn't matter. Go easy on the crimp too.
 
Flames coming out the muzzle indicate the load is not efficient, because too much powder is being burned after the B U L L E T leaves the barrel.
Flames is the last thing a serious shooter wants to see.

Unless that shooter has gotten his groups down and now wants something flashy. Not everyone is boring.
 
33 grains H110 with 300 grain jacketed hollow points. Very little crimp.
This was the best of several tries. Keep trying 20 or so rounds as you will get variation. This was taken in the dark with the shutter held open. Gets the maximum flame length as opposed to daytime shots.

I hope you meant 23 grains! Will 33 even fit in the case?

32 gr in 44 mag? Would it even fit? I think that's way beyond 180gr recommended max.

Anyhow, 23 gr of H110 gives me enough BOOM, but hardly any flames indoors. Can't even see outdoors even with over cast skies.

If someone has fired 240gr lead bullets with H110, please let me know if you got any nice flames.

Reason why I want flames is simply because I want to see flames. :)

It shoots great with 6gr of titegroup. Very pleasant load.
