How do I get my ATC

the easiest way is to get mixed up in some organized crime. rat out the "boss" of the organization and prepare to spend the rest of your life in the witness protection program. then, there is a slim chance you can convince the government that you may need a firearm for personal protection. but instead of just allowing you to carry a gun, they will move you to some remote village in Nunavut, thereby decreasing your need for a handgun, and saving the taxpayer from the grief associated with having armed maniacs like yourself walking the streets.

ymmv. but that's what i gather from reading the firearms act, and my extensive knowledge of Canadian law.

The application form can be found on the CFC's web site. Your best bet is to be the owner to a company that does work in remote areas. You will need to explain why you must carry a handgun for protection rather than a long gun. It cannot be for purposes of redundancy, or convenience. You must also send proof of proficiency, which means that the range officer of the club you shoot at will have to write a letter, identifying himself and attesting to the fact that he has seen you shoot, and that in his opinion you can shoot well and handle the gun safely. Good luck - if you get one it is worth the hassle.

IF you ever get an Authorisation to Carry, let us know how you did it. Most of us would like to duplicate your procedure.

If you're a bush pilot or Geological engineer working in the remote North, you MAY qualify, otherwise, GOOD LUCK.
