I bought a tasco reddot scope for my ruger 22/45.
I don't understand the instructions and never sighted in a scope before.

the instructions read. 1.Activate the illuminated reticle .
2. remove adjustment caps.
3. With scope mounted, rest the gun on a solid support. Sight along the barrel and aim at a target 50-100 yards away. Sight through your red dot and use the windage and elevation adjustments to align the lighted reticle with the target as seen along the barrel. Each click of the adjustment moves the point of impact by 1/2 an inch at 100 yards and 1/4 at 50 yards and 1/8 at 25.

I'm stupid can anyone dumb this down a notch for me or have a diffrent method.

firmly attach red dot to firearm. :p

Set up a target at 25M. (For hand gun use start at 10 M) Shoot at it. Where is it hitting? Make adjustments accordingly. (up for up, etc on the knobby things)

Once you have it "roughed in" fine tune it at the desired distance.

I set my red dot for "POI" (point of aim) ie: covering the target.

Such boards exists to help out one another, don't feal like a moron cuz we've all been there at least once and will happen at least once more with new toys.

I shoot at the target and holding the gun still, move the dot to the bullet hole. Then fine tune

This works great! ,,, its just the part about: "and holding the gun still" that's tough to do.

if it is a bolt action set gun on sand bags remove bolt site down bore to a target then move the knobby things to move the dot to where the bore is pointed

It's a Ruger 22/45. It could be bore sighted by removing the bolt and then in a rest adjusting the red dot to line up with the view looking down the bore of the barrel from behind with the bolt removed. Nice thing about this is you could do it at home before hitting the range and you know you will be on paper at 25 yards.

Does any of you (emmab and after him) realize that you've resurrected a thread that is nine years old?

Sigh.

Sigh, you should be able point that out without having to attempt to snub anyone...... can't speak for emmab personally but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that he didn't notice either. I sure didn't but thanks for pointing it out.

Sigh.

You're welcome! It was meant to be mildly embarrassing, yes, like having it pointed out that you're walking around with your fly open. :d

But still I wonder how he managed it, though that's just me being naturally curious. Before posting, I had been trying to recreate the steps needed to open and reply to an old post without noticing that every other post on the page has been read, or that all the "started by" and "last post by" dates look like 200x, or that the page navigation bar shows page numbers in the 250s... I just couldn't do it. It actually seem hard to get to such an post without seeing some hint about its age all over the forum navigation page. Even the search engine doesn't let you find posts older than three years.

Ah well, it can well remain a pointless mystery for the ages. Doesn't matter, was just curious. :)

glad to see you are paying attention; keep up the good work .. although I should point out that you have missed a number of other old threads that were deliberately resurrected to see if you would catch them. Still it is comforting to know that there are folks out there keeping an eye out for these sort of "infractions".:HR:

:)

Grawfr, I was thinking it must have been search related. Beside the 3 year selection option the next box allows the user to choose "and newer" or "and older"

I guess the OP's setting is on "and older"

I never pay attention to the date myself so totally missed it...... Ive also been accused of trolling and flying low from time to time....... :)

AP, if you are resurrecting old threads deliberately just to see if I catch them, you really need a better hobby... like dragging a lure tied to a fishing line behind a slow moving boat, wearing a floppy hat with all kinds of sharp curved metal bits and colorful feathers for decorations. Out of curiosity, how were you planning to determine which of the resurrected thread I have duly noticed but did not bother to post a comment about?

Can-down, that's a good point, I missed that possibility entirely, ha! Sounds like that could have been what happened all right, thanks! :)
