Might be wrong section, not sure. Maybe not a big deal, not sure. I am just wondering, I am to assume there would be charges or something if someone was to go and run down or harrass geese that have either nests or young running around. Be it on private property, city property what have you. Now I wonder how construction companys are allowed to go in and completely flatten the land where there are a pile of nests or youngsters running around. Do they move them, or does the birds just walk away I have no idea. But Im pretty sure its business as usual for these people and just keep on going. How would they not get charged with harrassment or something. I know alot of people would just sit there and say, well there are so many of them so who cares, but still, thats less for the rest of us.

an enviromental assesment must be done on all prospective devolopments , once it is done the devoloper then turns that asesment to the municipality and applyes for a permit. if the enviromental damage is deemed to be lesser then the projected benifits of said devolopment *think $$ and jobs* the municipality thewn issues a permit. the devoloper can now legaly bulldoze that property without fear of offence irregardless of what they destroy habitat wise.

If thats the case Signguy, (it could very well be) I cant imagine being the person who runs the dozers through the field with young staring at them (be it geese or deer fawns etc) and just keep on going. It seems like the attitude of "oh well, what are ya gonna do".
When I lived in Burnaby I had a permit to use one of my dogs to chase/harass geese off the Burnaby sport fields, (a volunteer position of course). But we couldn't do this during nesting times.
And from the info I gathered, the program was being carefully watched by several agencies involved in wildlife, and both myself and my dog where interviewed, checked out, and our method observed carefully.
So I'm sure a developer has to go through some sort of process to displace wildlife, and what impact it may have...at least here in BC.

True, up to the point they run out of specialized habitat, and then it's game over for wildlife in that area, and it tends to be a domino effect towards urbanization.

Oh, they will just gradualy move into civilization. The government will grant them sections of land and give them a limited source of income. They will have the option of federally sponsored education and most will turn it down. Next thing you know, you will be pedaling through a park, and get mugged by a flock of geese and they will have a deer as the wheelman. When you stand up, you'll see a bear riding away after he stole your bicycle.

I wouldnt want to see gosling get bulldozed over but where do you draw the line. Do you stop construction because someone claims the land to be developed is used as a toilet by butterlies????

Here in AB its a no- no to harass any game no matter what.
Be some paper trail I'd bet if a developer went through all the the hoops.
Better the hoops that the court system. Eventhough the fines for contravening the wildlife act in AB don't carry too much clout, I would think the press would be more of hurt on these big companies that anything else.
