How do you carry a rifle on your snowmobile?

Why not?

I preferred to use a softcase along the running board. Added straps to secure it to the tunnel. If the machine tips, the rifle is protected. Have also carried on my back in a snow cover, but didn't find this comfortable. Friend broke a new Sako in half when he had it on his back and got thrown.

I usually carry across my back when I am actually hunting. When traveling it's in the gun boot. I mount my gun boot lower at the back (this works best if you have a long track) so as to protect it in case of a roll-over.

Regards,

I used to carry my .22 in a leather scabbard along the tunnel of my machiines when on the trapline.
These days if I have a rifle with me, it's in a case and in the taboggan.

I don't hunt off my ATV very often, so I don't own one of those plastic scabbard things. They seem to work very well on the four wheelers. When I did hunt on mine, I adjusted the sling longer and slung it across my front with the rifle resting on my legs. A carbine works best here. The longer sling makes it easier to get off in a hurry and more comfortable to carry.

Across the front for me also.

We're not allowed to hunt from vehicles here in Ont.

For transport, I'd like it in the running board or along the tunnel. Only problem is it makes your boot stick out and snap your ankle on stumps

Carrying the cased rifle on a qamutiq is good, lie it along the load to protect it, if the sled were to roll. When getting close to the caribou, I've slung the rifle in front, under my arms, to keep it from bouncing. A rifle with a folding stock is very convenient on a machine.
In NWT/NU a snow machine was not a motorized vehicle as far as restrictions for hunting purposes was concerned.
