im looking for a better way of carrying my .22 rounds when shooting.
keeping them in the small paper boxes is ok for target shooting form one spot, but im thinking for when gopher shooting or similar what do you use? something that wont rattle is obviously best, but id rather not just have them loose in my pocket.

any suggestions? i know its a silly question, but never know, someone may have found perfect method to hold a few 100 rounds...

ZIPLOCK YOUR .22s

DON'T LIKE THE BOXES EITHER. CARRY THEM IN A ZIPLOCK (tm.) PLASTIC BAG. KEEPS THEM CLEAN ,WHICH IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT IF YOU SHOOT A SEMI AUTO. I LIKE THE SIZE ABOVE THE "SANDWICH BAG". 50 to 100 rounds seems to be enough in each bag. CHEERS POPS:runaway::50cal:

I have this little plastic wallet that folds the slim box open end from end, the cases stick into the little inserts and they stay there nice and secure and most of 'silent'.
I was going to send a pic, but I can't seem to find it after 15 minutes of looking, uhm? Sorry can't tell who made it or what name is on it until I find it.
I can tell you this, I liked for it's silence and it fit into any pocket.
It held 30 rounds of 22LR or 22Mag, wasn't much $.$ either.

Before that I used cotton balls, every time I depleted the box some, I added more cotton balls to the box to keep the rounds from moving around and making noise (best as possible)
Batting from a couch cushion works well also. lol

we've all seen those videos of some crazy auto 22s with large capacity drum mags right? couldn't someone make something like that but in clip form? i assume those drum mags are relatively quiet and could probably just clip on the belt if you wanted to.

i like the cci stingers in their 50 round plastic boxes, easy to get the proper amount, haven't seen too many gophers scared of 22 round rattle, especially hunting from a ford diesel truck window or a quad.

I wear a wind breaker and put 22 loose in one pocket, .17 in the other. That way when there is a lull in the action while strolling around, it's easy to pop a mag out and top it up.

You will make far more noise with a plastic box than you will with loose rounds, if gophers could care less that is......;)

I found that for field work nothing beats ziplock. Plastic boxes or whatever is a little too noisy when I walk - rounds shake and make rattle noise. Ziplock also provides some protections against moisture.

When I'm shootin gophers, I put 100 or so loose in each back pocket. Makes quick easy access with either hand, walking or laying down.

As ghey as it sounds - a fanny pack. I usually shoot from standing in the box of my truck (bipod on the roof), and the fanny pack is always within reach.

I have a three pouch one - one for empty mags, the middle one has loose rounds, and the other one for full mags. Makes reloading and keeping track of mags easy.

If you're talking about working the fields for critters, here is my loadout. On the left you see the quad mag pouch which carries(you guessed it) 4 Butler Creek 25 round mags and my multi tool. Next is my Cold Steel Master Hunter. You always need a good blade. The tan Maxpedition pouch is used to carry my radio. A very handy and recommended addition if you're out with multiple shooters. Lastly on the far right is a horizontal GP pouch with zipper opening. This pouch carries my loose ammo. The bag will carry a 535 round bulk pack and then some.

The ammo pouch rides at about 2 o'clock, the radio at 4 or 5 o'clock. The knife rests at 7 or 8 o'clock and the magazine drop leg rides at 9 o'clock. Additionally I wear a camelbak of some sort(not pictured). Sometimes a thermobak 3l but usually a camelbak HAWG. Inside the pack is a 3 litre reservoir, toilet paper, roll of duct tape, sunscreen, bug repellent, KC gopher call, binoculars, GPS, granola/energy bars, lube, spare batteries for radio and GPS, and most important of all a first aid kit to include a trauma kit for gunshot wounds. Nothing spoils a trip like killing a shooting buddy.

Well look what I found when hunting around the house for batteries this morning,

+1 on the fanny pack. Wear it with the pouch in the back when you are shooting, and spin it around to the front when you need to reload.

i just top up the 50 rnd boxes that have the plastic incert (american eagel box). might rattle a little bit, but i just keep moving the box till i find the sweet spot where it doesn't make any noise. its also a good way to keep me moving slowly while in the bush...its amazing how many deer i spooked this year while walking dead slow compaired to when i'm just going for a walk at a good pace...and no i'm not hunting deer with a .22...i was looking for grouse.
